One thing that you might try is to check that your speaker settings match the actual speaker arrangement you have. I have to do that every time I start FS (9 or X) because I can't get it to stick.

Re: Sound in FSX
Hi Chaps, many thanks to all who have contributed with helpful suggestions, I spent some time trying all your suggestions however nothing came to fruitation, sooooo, I did a system restore.....no difference......put it back and then uninstalled FSX and after putting it all back in....again no change!!
By now my patience was becoming a little thin so in desperation and as a last resort I hit the restore to factory settings button........
and two and a half hours later with everything back in apart from ORBX and Capt Sim 737.............ATC heard loud and clear!!
Just do not know what caused this problem but thankfully everything now OK.
Regards
Nigel

Re: Sound in FSX
Using the Factory settings sounds (no pun intended) as if its linked to the 'Settings' front page in FSX where one can set the sound output from ATC, Engines, etc. rather than the 'puter sound setup.
Anyway glad you have some of your hearing back!
