Have you tried version 3 of John Terrell's "blip" gauge ? One of its features is that it does away with the time lag imposed by earlier versions of the gauge. You can find it at post 146 if you're interested -

Thanks Rohan for the FDE update - now off to try it.
Confirm also that I have V3 for the blip!
Thanks again

It's funny how you can waste a day doing something very simple isn't it 8)

While starting off with the intention of trying to make a little company for the Camel at Old Warden.. I've ended up with new everything  I started with the old AI Albatross (x2) and AI SE-5a (x1) and thought that a little unfair on the SE5 with 2 to 1 so I added the Nieuport 17. Unfortunately.. the Nieuport didn't want to be an AI model. Gad knows what it's like to fly.. I never tried it! Anyhoo.. despite throwing the Albatross airfile at it.. the N17 wouldn't/couldn't land. It always managed to turn onto finals a couple of hundred feet too high and couldn't scrub the alt off so ended up going around.. and around.. and around. You get the picture. However.. it's not a bad looking model and it's different so I changed it's flightplan to happen at night when no one cares what it does  While all this was going on, the reluctance of the N17 to land put one of the Albatross out of kilter and out of TNG time which left it running on silent (no radio contact) and continually TNGing for all eternity. This should've been simple shouldn't it. 8)

In the end, I broke the 4 into 2 pairs and forced the Albatross in each pair to land after 1 circuit by giving it a total display time of 7mins. This sounds odd but it took hours for me to find a compromise. The Albatross doesn't actually TNG.. it takes off and lands :)

This still seemed boring so I added yet more AI.. a Hurricane, a Tiggie and DG's Anson. After fumbling around trying to find why the Hurricane and Tiggie refused to show.. I opened EG2J in ADE9x and found it only has 6 parking slots. Here was me presuming the statics were taking up parking slots and they weren't so.. all the statics went! Of course, this still only gives 6 parking slots but that knackered DC3 and omni-present yellow Cub, PC3 and whatever else you see at every GA airport got my goat up anyway so I replaced them with statics a little different. They're all UK2K so it's a case of recycling  I think I got rid of 6 and replaced them with 10 or 11 :wall: One thing I found about the newer statics is they have ground shadows so I binned a few that didn't have them and replaced them with models that did. The end result still looks naff but less naff than the default.. I hope :)

I've kept them looking oldish so I don't think it's lost anything. The young lady who stands by the gate waiting for something to happen now has a parked LandRover to give her a lift and there's an airframe in a state of repair on the other side of the fence next to the Shuttleworth building.. giving a WIP taster if you will :) What I need to do is make a few choice models into statics as I can't add anymore AI. I've a paint for Hurricane 7L I could lob in and I fancy having a Lysander there too. These wouldn't have shadows mind so they'd look 'odd man out'. *-)

And all this has taken just 9hrs with a short break for dinner

John Terrell has just released version 4 of the blip gauge as he found a bug in the last one. If you're interested, you can find it here -

Hope that helps,

That look better Dave
I do like the UK2000 airfields, but his use of statics sometimes leaves a bit to be desired

Now just repaint the Camel with DB on the top wing and you're all set :worried:

I don't have enough spare buttons to use it Ro. I gave my CH Quad away years ago and my yoke is up in the loft so all I have are what you get on an M$ Precision Pro.. and that aint a lot  I'm getting used to whazzing the trottle open and closed. I'll probably bugger the joystick soon

Thanks for the comment Dave  I didn't plan an all red CBFS Camel but it'd be novel.. a poor mans Red Bull  I've got the Nemeth Squirrel flying ok so there are possibilities for yet more Police paints.. white with jam sandwich rather than blue/black and yellow  EDIT: your Anson is there all day Dave. I let the crew nip off for a quickie around 2am but the rest of the day is theirs ;)

Tried the amended FDE which gives the elevator trim - only need about 4 clicks nose down, but must admit that have been using aileron trim on the joystick. New FDE also has a lower MOI for the prop....anyway I've been finding that using F1 or F4 (Throttle full/throttle cut) is easier than the mixture version as the motor completely cuts & one needs to restart in the approach !!! Still cannot get a satisfactory torque effect with On or Off power, but as said before its a very nice thing to fly....BTW only been flying in calm sunny weather - might be a lot different with some wind & turbulence!

You can get rid of the statics though! Quite easily on install or by going into the scenery files and deleting the statics file for each airfield.

Personally always thought it would be great if someone was to model Old Warden (to a higher standard) and the Shuttleworth Collection for FS - maybe making a donation to them in the process - unfortunately haven't got the talent to do this myself. One of my favourite places to visit, especially since they have now introduced vintage gliders and sailplanes into the displays and collection.

Oh, I know they can be removed. I usually replace them with something more appropriate. :)

A really good Old Warden would be great to have. Maybe ORBX will do one :hide:
