Scotflightv2.1 photo

Post by DaveB »

Hi chaps..

As we're all stuck indoors due to it snowing like a b@stard outside.. I've been flying around Shetland on the Orkney's this morning. Made a slight cock-up with my schedule.. thought I'd finished at Sumburgh last night but I actually finished at Kirkwall. No problemo.. flew around the Shetlands then down through the Orkneys ending up at Kirkwall :)

One thing struck me about the Orkneys.. in particular, Fair Isle, North Ronaldsay, Sanday, the Westray's, Eday and Stronsay. I don't have any Scotflight airports or scenery there and I should have. Kirkwall is fine and everything to the east, west and south. Sumburgh is fine as is everything to the east, west and north but that little group in between is void of Scotflight. The thing is.. it shouldn't be 8)

I was up to Scotflight v2.1 when I bought the Western Isles by GenX (vol 4) when Scotflight announced an upgrade to make v2.1 compatible so I bought Scotflight Photo Scenery v2.1. The destructions say to uninstall any previous Scotflight scenery before installing the new one which I did. I've not been up that neck of the woods for a long time but I'm certain the last time I went.. I had Scotflight airports and scenery in the Orkneys between Kirkwall and Sumburgh *-)

Does anyone have their FSX install at the same point.. eg, GenX Western Isles (only) plus Scotflight 2.1 photo? If so, can they check for Scotflight scenery in the Orkney's please :) I've looked in the scenery folder for Scotflight Photo v2.1 and there's no sign of the Orkney's. Surely there should be? :dunno:

Hello Mate :hello:

The Scotflight numbering and condition of updates isn't exactly clear. You don't need higher numbers if you don't have specific scenery which is why I stayed at 2.1 which is designed to work with GenX vol4 but no other GenX in Scotland. It matches the Western Isles scenery but the rest is for default if that makes sense. I have scenery everywhere else up there.. just the Orkney's is missing :dunno:

Ben..

I think it must be me mate. I've just dug out the html readme's for Scotflight FSX and Scotflight Photo and there's no mention of any airports or scenery in the Orkney's.. they were in the FS9 version. Well I'll be *-)

Hi Dave.

I've just bought Scotflight for the Western Isles, and had a few problems. The thread is up on Scotflight forums. Very confusing.

I think I've sussed it Dave.

the easiest way to work it out is to go to the Scoflight product info page.

First you say if you are using FSX or FS9, with or without photo scenery, so I select FSX with Photo scenery. Next your asked if you want it for the whole of Scotland or only those areas covered by the photo scenery. If you select the latter, you get the option to by individual areas covered by GenX. If you select the former, you get all of the GenX areas.

As I've been upgrading my version since long before GenX, although I have the photo scenery versions for all of Scotland, I only have the GenX part 8.

Hi Ben.. yes, I'd seen that. I couldn't see the point in buying versions to merge in with GenX I didn't have which is why I have photo 2.1 as this matches the Western Isles. Casting my mind back.. I seem to remember the Orkneys was missing from the initial Scotflight releases and couldn't fathom out why. I still can't to be honest with you. Point is.. I don't want to buy another verion of Scotflight just to get the Orkneys. Doesn't seem right when they were there in the FS9 version 8)

Dennis..
I noticed you'd had problems. I tried to login/register/contact them yesterday and none of these functions were 'available'. I gave up. Hope they get you sorted ;)
