Scenery problem, An Error Has Occured - CTD?
FS Trees has again trashed my FSX setup and unfortunately the Windows Image I created cannot be restored as the external drive I saved it on does not have any dos drivers!
Not to mention my USB keyboard and mouse not working in DOS!
Oh, and the repair disc doesn't.
(don't ya just love computers!)
Is there any way to debug and resolve a scenery crash?
If not how would I repair FSX?
Last time this happen I tried an FSX re-install and a delete, re-install of FSX to no avail.
I'm thinking a re-install of Windows, then FSX and all the scenery without FS Trees?
Sorry Earth Sims but your online installer sucks worse than a Dyson!
I'm also thinking of another internal disc (1 or 2 tb) to create my images on.
Any suggestions on software for backing up with? Windows backup util sucks even more!

I use Macrium Reflect for back-up. You can also create a Windows system backup on any drive which can be restored even if windows won't boot.

What version of Windows are you running. Since Vista, the Windows operating system can take complete image based backups natively and it doesn't use DOS anymore, you just create a restore CD (or DVD) which you boot from, attach your external hard disk with the image on and you are sorted.

Yeah, I know. Problem is windows can neither boot from Windows (I'm using Win7 64) to restore a system image (using the option in backup and restore).
When using the system restore disc and asking it to look for system images it doesn't see any?
Even though it can see the backups from within system restore in win7?
I've tried placing the system images in the root partition of the drive, nothing.
Anyone had this problem of creating a system image with backup and restore and then win7 not being able to see it from system repair disc, image restore?
I'm using a 2 TB external drive and 2 x 250gb SSD drives.

So your booting from the restore CD with the external hard disks plugged in and switched on before you start booting from the CD? You should the get a dialogue box so you can browse to the folder containing the backup image? You mentioned that the USB Keyboard and mouse weren't working either. It sounds like you don't have "Legacy USB" support enabled in the BIOS.
It doesn't use DOS at all, the recovery DVD is a version of Windows 7 PE (Pre execution Environment). What make / model are the external hard disks?

Re: Scenery problem, An Error Has Occured - CTD?
I have the External Drive plugged in before I boot with the restore CD.
I have also copied the System Images onto a local drive to see if they can be seen.
When the System Restore utility (from the restore disc) searches for the Images it see's nothing?
The external drive is a Western Digital 2TB External Drive. All my drives are NTFS.
The Keyboard and Mouse maybe a red herring. An MS keyboard plugged in works okay. I think they are not recognized because they are on a secondary USB 3 hub. An expansion card of USB ports. The ports on the MB work okay.

Definitely check the BIOS mate. Don't copy files anywhere, it wont work like that. Just enable Legacy USB support, boot the recovery DVD (having already plugged the drives in) and it should just work. I've done it many times in the past and its never had a problem, apart from the one time I realised I hadn't been taking system image backup, but just backups of specific files and folders, and that was clearly my fault

Okay, thanks for the info. I will try that and report back...TSR2 wrote:Definitely check the BIOS mate. Don't copy files anywhere, it wont work like that. Re: Scenery problem, An Error Has Occured - CTD?
fixed the problem with the drive not recognised with the system recovery disc.
I unplugged the drive from the bank of usb ports on the front of the tower and plugged it into the four at rear.
still not working. then I spotted two ports on their own. Using these ports works.
I can only guess that the system restore disc can see these ports because they are on the mother board.
btw bios was set to legacy.

Great news mate. Its always best to use on board USB ports for this sort of thing. Glad your sorted
