I always liked the Aerosoft Gib in FS9 and enjoyed getting the Tridents and even a VC10 on occasion in and out of it. It was one of my main trips from Blighty until I moved to FSX. Malta is another nice run in either the trident or the Vanguard, nice to have some eye candy at the end of a 4 hour flight. I bought the photo scenery and the airport for Malta

Hello Mate
Yes, and fair comment
I only pop to Gib to see the RN leaving and I have to admit, the default leaves a lot to be desired. In FS9, I used to park up by the RAF station and watch traffic crossing the runway.. sad git that I am
My version of Malta was payware but I missed the opportunity to upgrade it.. not Aerosoft I'm sad to say. It had building work going on at the main terminal and the crane working all the time really pee'd me off. If I'd have had a scenery decompiler, I'd have got rid of it
Otherwise, it was lovely scenery which covered Gozo too. The RAF side was well represented too. One day maybe

I don't know why people are posting pics of GenX stuff, as I thought we were talking about OrbX.
If it's for comparison, well, here are my scenery shots in the UK.
These are using UTX Europe and GEX Europe, and UK2K VFR Airfields. The houses are also predominantly white. Despite this, the overall impression is still far better than default FSX due to the fact that UTX chooses the type of building and placement.
This is a high altitude shot over the Bristol area - very convincing imho, although is that some tiling I see upper left in the distance?:

You can't see so well, but well enough to spot that the majority of the buildings in this urban area are white or light-coloured (I fly 90% over the countryside - built up areas don't float my boat):

The trees in GEX are far better than any others I've seen so far:

If this doesn't look like lush English countryside, then I don't know what does:

Again, the buildings are white - but the placement and sparsity compared to default makes it okay and had it not been mentioned, would not have made a difference to me. Besides which, a lot of the buildings around this are (N. Fens) are white in the countryside - and many in town, too.

We all know that the photographic stuff on its own is pretty tosh at low-ish levels, especially in urban areas, but on this VFR trip in Wales, JF's Real Scenery is well within the acceptable range:

I was going to buy the OrbX stuff, but when I look at pics like those showing UTX/GEX, I wonder if I really need it?

Re: ORBX FTX England
...and if you fly in typical English weather conditions, it looks good, too - in fact I might even say on occasion it looks pretty awesome (UTX+GEX+UK2K VFR)

Hmmm, think I'll stick with what I've got!

Re: ORBX FTX England
Those countryside shots look very nice J0hn
Many of us oiks don't have Rex/Gex/UTX or an assortment of the many out there (though it has to be said, a lot do). We can't really compare the default with anything other than for framerate reference as it's sh1te so it's been nice to see what you see with UTX/GEX and not what most of us have.. GenX.
To be honest, the sparsity of buildings in shot 5 I think it is, is hardly worth them being there but at least they don't get in the way
However, if you don't have Gex/UTX/GenX/REX+.. the ORBX FTX England is a viable alternative and cheaper than either 2 of that list by a country mile. It has it's own weather schemes too and comes with 5 seasonal ground textures. Not sure how we've crept to 5 from 4 but there you go
Thanks for posting those J0hn

Re: ORBX FTX England
If it's the same as my FTX Stewart airport, it's a 'hard winter' selectable in the control panel. Coincidentally I did a flight up there today in my bush Cessna with tundra tyres on the hard winter setting. All the taxiways and runways are covered in frozen snow and the roofs of the buildings have a covering. It makes you shiver just sitting at the screen.DaveB wrote: It has it's own weather schemes too and comes with 5 seasonal ground textures. Not sure how we've crept to 5 from 4 but there you go![]()
It doesn't matter how slow you land, and how close to the threshold, those wheels lock and you slide the length of the runway and drop off the end at about 5 mph. Every time
On the other hand, I've perfected handbrake turns with Hama's magnificent BMW 760 for FSX which is my airport vehicle of choice. I could play with that for hours, kicking up plumes of snow as I slide sideways into trees
