Ben, I shall bear that in mind, as Opus will be using the same textures as the REX weather engine. Doubt I'll get to do much more with it anyway, before the weekend.TSR2 wrote:Hi mate. That might well be the problem. I know my 560Ti runs it fine, but its not exactly top of the range these days. Lots of folk have problems with the likes of the QW146 and REX because some of the textures are huge, much bigger than the FSX defaults and the graphic cards simply can't cope.

Re: Anyone using Opus weather engine ?
Paul, I've skimmed through the thread on the ORBX forum and had a glance at the Opus product page. It seems to me like it can be a really quick and simple way of setting up weather once you've got it installed and using the REX textures. It does sound attractive but there's so much other stuff with it, cameras and nodding heads and accusim on steroids that I don't want to get into. I'll be interested to hear how you get on but I'm unlikely to follow you, I think

That's my target. Simplicity. I think REX plus (plus plus?) Opus is a step too far for my simple brain!Henry David Thoreau wrote:Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify!

I knew this would happen - I've held off from Opus for the moment, and am letting REX do its thing yet again. At Ketchikan, it was bucketing down, all the surrounding mountains appropriately wreathed in mists etc. - now the rain has stopped and visibility is improving. As the shipping forecast would say - REX, fair, becoming good later.

While you were at PAKT, I was further north in PANC, also using REX live weather which was giving scattered snow showers. It was very realistic and the clouds looked very good indeed, despite me having selected a lowish resolution. The only thing wrong with REX ++ etc. is the loading time and complicated interface, so I'm hoping that you decide that adding another level of complication is not necessary

Well, having dabbled further with REX, I think I might be doing better than I give myself credit for - or give REX credit for, maybe. Using Sim Launcher ( version 3 now ! ), and ensuring 'User Defined Weather' is selected, I positioned a Beaver at Cambridge in P3D, then started REX, and then clicked on Fly Now. Waited for the green bar to fill up left to right and then sure enough the weather REX injected pretty much reflected what we have had here all day - unbroken leaden murk. I forced the weather to reload several times, and it stayed constant. I'm still going to give Opus a try, however.

Can you explain it better, please, Paul?Paul K wrote:then started REX, and then clicked on Fly Now. Waited for the green bar to fill up left to right ...

I've got a Fly Now button on Sim Launcher and a Fly Now button on REX-E. Which do I press and when? And when I open REX the green bar fills up without me doing anything. I mean, I can't press Fly Now until the green bar has filled.
So when you set up Sim Launcher and select user defined weather do you then click Fly Now in Sim Launcher and start P3D and THEN start REX and click Fly Now in REX? I guess not because you'd have to be in windowed mode. I can't seem to get the right combination to get REX weather started along with a sim launcher selection.

Oh, cheers, Dave. I'll put the kettle on

@Ben. Thanks, mate. At the moment none of the browsers on my iCrud will open that so it will have to wait till I get home this afternoon. But I'm sure it will explain everything in your usual explicit manner!
