World Environment 2012

Post by Airspeed »

Do any of you have anything to say about this add on for FS9 & X?
It's on offer for $9.00. They say it enhances sky, precipitation, textures etc without hurting fps.
I don't want to buy it just because it's cheap, especially if you've heard bad things about it.
I did get fantastic roads & rivers for my local scenery, but it also put runways in the sea. The makers have disappeared.
Thanks in advance.

Its just a texture set so i would say spend the extra and buy REX, as its both a texture set and weather engine.

... unless you already have a satisfactory weather engine so why pay more for something you already have :)

This is a problem I have with many of the available addons ;)

Thanks for your comments, chaps.
I do have REX for FS9.
One problem I do have with some add ons is that FS is launched from within, so they are exclusive of other add ons.

I'm not sure I follow, REX is generally considered to be the best of the bunch, and although you can launch FS9 from within the REX interface, you don't have to. You can start FS9 and then start REX ;)

Hi Ben,
No complaints about REX, BTW, it's very capable and I intended no criticism of it.
I've always used REX to set up the situation, then click on the FLY NOW! button, which launches FS2004.
I wasn't aware that I could do it like you have described. Thanks for educating me!
Flying School, on the other hand, wants me to start FSX, be on the runway, then launch Flying School.
Auto Star was run once, which inserted all the night sky details, and unless I remove it, those sky objects are always there.
Formation AI is run, aircraft and flying pattern selected, then it asks to be connected to FSX.
I think that this means for example, that I can't run Flying School AND Formation simultaneously.
I would also think that I would not be able to run 3-Wire in FS2004 with Rex. EDIT but from what you've said, maybe I can!
I was referring to those sort of things.
I haven't tried any of these combinations because they seem to be mutually exclusive, and usually my flight requirements are pretty simple anyway.

Hi Mike,

Yep, I understand. I've never really liked using REX to start flight (but I understand why many do) I just start my flight in FSX, then launch REX and go to Weather, type in the ICAO code for the airport I'm at and hit "Fly Now"
