ORBX FTX Pacific Fjords Patch 002

Post by speedbird591 »

I think it's only me, Peter and Paul who are using this but I'll post it here in case there are any other Alaskan bush pilots out there!

Holger Sandmann has just announced the release of patch 002 for the Pacific Fjords scenery (NA PFJ). It incorporates patch 001 so no need to save that for subsequent updates. It also now incorporates a wrapper for Prepar3d installation.

Full details here (scroll to second post): ORBX New Releases

Speaking of Alaskan bush pilots, does anybody remember the TV series 'Northern Exposure' in the 90s? It was a wonderfully quirky and philosophical sitcom based around a New York Jewish doctor who found himself working in the small imaginary town of Cicely, Alaska, thinking that he'd signed a contract for Sicily, Italy. It was a lovely, gentle program with some wonderful characters and scenery and the love interest was an attractive bush pilot whose boyfriends all died tragic deaths so nobody would date her. Well, I've finally tracked down the complete 6 series on eBay for a knock-down price - so now I can relive the Alaskan dream both on the PC and on the telly (50 hours of it!). I'll obviously be wearing my Marks and Spencer's 'North Country' collection to add atmosphere

Hey! How about that! It was pretty obscure - like Twin Peaks without the mystery.

You'll like this story, then, Ben :tunes:

The second Mrs. Speedbird and I were both great fans of Northern Exposure and watching it with a bottle of wine was the highlight of the week. One day on a trip to Seattle, around 1994, we had a day off and decided to hire a car and get out of the city. We asked for a compact but the lady in the car rental place said she only had a large car left but would let us have it for the price of a compact. It turned out to be a white Cadillac convertible with whitewall tyres and bench seats! We decided to drive east to the Cascade mountain range and see what happened. We found ourselves in a town called Roslyn and stopped for lunch. Somehow, the streets and shops looked familiar and we couldn't work out why. Then there was a commotion and some people burst out of a nearby shop arguing with each other. We strolled over to see what was going on and realised that there was a camera crew and then recognised the people as actors from Northern Exposure! It turned out that the town of Roslyn was the setting for Cicely, Alaska in the TV series and we'd stumbled across them making an episode.

My life seems to be full of co-incidences like that. Chris, the DJ in NE would have some zen thoughts on that and so would I - but I'll spare you them
