CD for Hong Kong 99 old Kai Tak airport

In my flying days of the 1960's I enjoyed the thrill of the approach and landing at this airport. So much so that I purchased the above CD from Instant Access (now defunct). Having resurrected a flt.sim. of my beloved Bristol Britannia from Surclaro I have tried to load the above CD into FSX without success despite trying to use various compatibility programs. When I try to load the disk I get a long message saying the version of this file is not compatible with my Windows, and a bit about 64bit and 32bit.

My computer is a Packard bell running Intel i7 with 8 MB RAM and 1TB hard disk and is 64bit. However I also have an X86 (32bit) program file running FSX.
I see no reason why this CD will not run in compatibility mode for Win95 or 98. Can anyone help?

I have that disk in storage here. I'll try to dig it out and try it in FS9 and FSX, to see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Melicomb,

Its probably just the installer. What I mean by that is that back in the day when 64bit wasn't really thought of, when people where making installers for software they often simply ticked the box for 32bit. Roll forward a few years an the Microsoft 64 bit operating systems can easily run 32bit programs. However, there is a gotcha. If the installer (the setup file) didn't have 64bit ticked as an option when it was created, it simply wont run, regardless of whether or not the operating system can actually run the software. There are ways around it, by hacking the setup file using tools like ORCA.

LOL, Years of pratting about with computers Mike. We changed the address ages ago, but I c0cked it up. Only got round to fixing it for folk who were still using the .org address a week ago, so there's an example of lack of knowledge to counterbalance everything

Spoke too soon, had to log in again tonight, must have been a temporary glitch in the "keep the colonials out" firewall that let me through earlier!

Haven't forgotten my promise to dig out that old disk, just no opportunity today, but judging by Ben's comments, I'll have exactly the same result as Mr M. Orca sounds interesting, I'll look it up.

Finally dug out that FSWG CD and predictably had the same message as you, Mr/Mrs/Ms Melicomb.
Time to hunt Orca?
