1-11 busy at Boscombe today

Post by speedbird591 »

It's a bit noisy today. It sounds like the 1-11 is doing circuits at Boscombe Down. It's been active for a couple of days so if anyone's driving down the A303 keep your eyes and ears open.

It gets refitted then does a series of tests.

Conceivably this could well be on it's last job.

Reminds me of standing in Poole in August 2000 and looking up at a One-Eleven cackling in the climb over Sandbanks out of Hurn :tunes: . I stood and stared with a feeling that I'd never see one again, and I've not seen one since. :'(

May I note that the 1-11 video archives on youtube are alarmingly thin -
So anyone who is near and is willing to go to the time and effort of trying to get this bird on film -
you will not only make me happy but you'll be also taking one of the very last chances to fill these archives! :)

All the very best,

Nick

It does seem the One-Eleven is being allowed to slip away unnoticed. *-)

BA doesn't even seem to record the end of it's service, it's as if a blind eye is turned toward it apart from a few dedicated enthusiasts. :((

As such the last 10-15 years seem to have the type in a state of "persona non gratis" :dunno:

Recent history seems to have ignored it

I remember BBC South Today covering the last civvie flight out of Hurn.....ten years ago!! :-O

Avion has two DVDs covering its history aswell, so, not all is forgotten! :)

Not that I'm a big fan of the type, but I do have quite a bit of footage of ZE432, the ETPS one (for posterity) at Boscombe. I'll try and put some up on the 'tube'.

Funny you should say that, Nick

I haven't got a decent video camera (I use a Canon G12 as it fits in my backpack) but I'd intended going for a bike ride today and one of my usual rides is around Grovelly Wood, near Salisbury which happens to be about 3 miles upwind from Boscombe and pretty much on the runway heading. She's scared the crap out of me a couple of times before by blasting over the horizon with no warning and with no time for me to get my camera out. So, as she was out this morning, I thought I'd head over that way this afternoon, settle myself down for lunch with a good view to the North East, set my camera to video and wait. I waited for half an hour and then suddenly ... nothing happened :dunno:

So I took the photo anyway - it's not my fault the aircraft wasn't in it. Just imagine that it was in the shot 2 hours earlier, just coming over the trees on the ridge to the right. You could photoshop it in if you like  Next time I hear it airborne I'll scramble over there quicker!
