Hi Ben,
The Saitek Cyborg is a pretty nice stick. It has two sliders for engines, but I use one for engines and one for the spoilers. There is a thumb wheel and enough buttons for all the other basic controls to be at the finger tips. As far as throwing an old one away, you can always take them apart and fit the switches into a small project box and use them for other functions.
or just keep using the one you have now that you've fixed it...

That'd do it ok Ben.
I've been using the Logitec Extreme 3D Pro for over two years Ben, with no problems.

Re: The Joystick question again...
I think it was you who recommended it to me a few years ago Graham. I have to say it felt like it was built to withstand a nuclear explosion but as mentioned earlier, I had issues with the spring tension being too strong so found another Sidewinder Precision Pro online (secondhand of course) and bought it. The Logitec sat in it's box right up until I came to move to the Midlands so I gave it away.
Anyway, now Ben has discovered the wonders of electricity, he won't need one now
Pity my old MSFF (mk1) stopped working with Windows Me and above.. an MS issue, not the stick. That also went in the skip recently

I am in no position to criticise...some of you might remember that BigBeast had failed and I was trying to find out why. Well, the M/B had been fried, and a new one brought the thing to life, except that the fry-up seems to have damaged the HDD as well. But after installing the new mobo, and hooking everything up as before, it still didn't want to play. So I laid the tower on its side to start stripping out all the bits, and found it would not lie down flat; the reason being that the mains end of the PSU supply was not in the plug

Re: The Joystick question again...
Reminds me of the time a car which had been a garage queen for a few months when newly married and skint got the better of me. It wouldn't start, so I played with the points (remember them?), plugs etc.
SWMBO wanders out and mentions that she can't smell any fuel fumes from the exhaust even though I'd been flogging said beast ( car not SWMBO - that costs extra) over for a while.
Daft bat, wot does a mere bird know about motors, mutter grumble. Once she had got bored and wandered back into the house I discovered that the fuel pump had failed........

Re: The Joystick question again...
It appears that my old Saitek Cyborg joystick is dying, or has died! A quick scan at amazon.co.uk this morning prior to leaving for London displayed a large range of sticks but many are labelled for XP and almost none for W7.
If any forum user has recently installed a W7 joystick and is pleased with the performance perhaps they could tell me which stick works best for them.

Re: The Joystick question again...
My Logitech extreme 30 pro goes back to XP days and I've connected and been using it on the W7 machine without any thoughts of incompatability tbh.
It loaded just fine...I guess the correct driver was automatically found, whatever, nothing at all suspicious.
I do like the stck and have always felt comfortable with it...just plug in and use as expected
