I am attempting to rebuild my FS9 installation on my new computer which has the Windows 7 OS.
Many years ago I bought Active Sky v6.5 which ran very well on the XP OS. Today I tried to install ASv6.5 but W7 indicated incompatability issues with Windows Net1.0 and called a halt to the installation process. I have looked for solutions on the HiFi support website and the Avsim unofficial support site but I did not find these sites helpful.
Can any forum member help please? Apparently updating to the newest MS Net version does not work.

Re: Windows 7 Active Sky v6.5
Dot net 1.0 is obsolete (has been for about 5 years now) and while it is possible to make it work under windows 7, it does more harm to the OS than is justified by getting it installed IMHO. Is upgrading to a current version of Active Sky (or something similar) not an option?

Ben.

You may like to consider trying this freeby one.

I have found it very stable and not the resource hog of these commercial programs. I stopped using AS when this appeared.

For Vancouver:
Many thanks for your reply. I am in contact with HiFi and am now waiting for a reply to my request. I have had a quick look look at the freeby weather system and may have to try that program. Thanks for the pointer.
Upgrading to a current version of ActiveSky is not out of the question, having just replaced my computer I am trying to make the best use of my FS9 software.

Hi Hobby,
If you do need it install the .net framework, it can be done, its just that the upgrade is a much better option. If youre looking at a replacement REX is (IMHO) a much better offering and if your new machine is reasonably configured, it should have no trouble at all....

You also get the REX Overdrive for FS9 as a free download. £23 well spent if you ask me.

Re: Windows 7 Active Sky v6.5
I received the following answer to my Active Sky/Windows 7 problem from HiFi this morning(09:30 Hrs BST).
"Hi James,
You would run the program and install MS Net frame 1.1. At the end of this installation you will get the error message. That is ok. Once you do it will terminate the installation. Re-run the install "As Administrator" and it will install properly.
Since the product is over 8 years old there is compatibility issues with Windows 7, but that is the workaround to get it working.

Joshua has not suggested upgrading to the latest version of ActiveSky and the above answer is a little unsatisfactory since there are still compatability issues with Windows 7. Reluctantly I shall move to another weather generating program for FS9.

Hi James
I think that's the best course of action mate. While I understand you being reluctant to spend more, you may find the newest versions of AS discounted for previous users

Thanks Dave
Just raised my head after a couple of days rebuilding the scenery library to discover my stick is faulty and cannot remember the assignements - bit of a shock when checking out an Humberside oil refinery to see that disappear to be replaced by a selection of views inside and outside the acft, quickly replaced by the normal panel view!
Whether weather or new stick?
