Hi Dave,

thats good news, well, if it continues it will be. I've a mountain of work on at the moment so have spent the last 4 days reviewing documents thus why the Belfast hasn't left Iceland yet. So far I've only used a default config to take the Avro from Sydenham over to East Mids. the plan (so far as there is one) is to get the Belfast back to blighty, take so rest and do a few local 146 flights before getting back to the second Belfast and hopefully more FD / panel work

Tried a full ILS landing into Frankfurt and it works really well. There's something about Frankfurt's ILS that want's to drop you into the middle third of the runway which is a bit disconcerting.. noticed this with the VC10 here too so it's not the model. We'll see what Stansted has to offer now I know how to operate the ILS!

Finding low speed over the threshold difficult to control.. minimum throttle tends to pick up too much speed and no throttle means you hit the ground hard unless you cop the flare bang on.. something I've yet to master. Good job they have sturdy paws these RJ's

Does frankfurt have a displaced threshold?

That I don't know mate. I know the ILS takes you what seems to be an unnerving distance down the runway but an advantage is that you have less to taxi.. unless of course you're coming in from the south!

A further note for Ben and the VA pilots.. this flight (the return) showed and gave me the right fuel too so that's 3 in a row now. However, the figures on the PED still show a vast difference. I honestly can't say if this is because I'm using the 'Lite' panel but one would hape that lesser mortals don't get unreliable instruments

Hi mate, as with the real one, liberal use of the airbrake to control landing speed

Never seen a real one land nor been in one I'm afraid. I've used the brake to slow myself for turns but never crossing the line. I'll have to give it a go

A couple more things to note. If you keep the sim open and do a second flight (or more).. you don't get the 'personal electronic equipment' announcement after the first flight.

Another..
I've noticed the lift dumpers don't always operate with the '/' key. Sometimes, a second dab is required. On hitting the runway at Frankfurt, they deployed on their own.. which I was quite chuffed about but mystified as to why this doesn't happen all the time

Finally.. the FSNav Star for Stansted sucks It slots you in on approach too high to capture the darned thing so while I was on the button for direction, the beam was already below me. As any good fellow knows.. you don't fly down into the vertical beam.. you fly into it from below. Never mind.. I turned the lot off and flew it in by hand achieving an all time best of -58fpm

Airbrake open before touchdown and also in descent

Spoilers... sounds like sometimes you're arming auto spoiler

I wish I knew how to arm the autospoiler though to be honest.. I've not looked. I just sit there and let it all happen around me I'm about 30mins away from descent so I'll try the airbrake open for landing and see what a mess I can make on the ground in Vienna

Auto spoilers are "shift + /", although if your using AP, I think from memory they deploy automatically. I've flown in them a good few times over the years and seen them regularly at Sydenham and Edinburgh and they always use the airbrake
