Thanks for your kind wishes gentlemen. Truly appreciated.
I've actually had the cancer for 6 years.
The specialist suggested that especially as my family has a history of seeing their 90th birthdays, I'm better off eliminating it.
The op. doesn't concern me as much as the potential incontinence.
Don't want to be in nappies for the next 25 years.
Thanks again. I'll report back to ATC about a week after the op.

I'm scheduled 'testing' of that very same apparatus sometime soon. All a consequence of moving house and having to register at a new doctor. The 'routine' water sample (which looked ok to me and to the doc) looked less so to the multi coloured test strip and another one after a week tested the same In view of my family history (my dad had cancer of the bladder).. the doc is sending me for tests. I've never had trouble with the waterworks so whatever is happening down there may have gone unnoticed for a long time so I'm grateful (though suitably annoyed) in the long run

Hope your outcome is positive, getting to these things before they get their teeth in is apparently the way to go.
We had an episode of "Australian Story" a couple of days back, and they were talking to folks who were in a human testing of anti cancer drugs. One had a brain tumour, another had it somewhere in her throat. Both were completely cleared. It looks like there is a future in medicinal cure. Mind you, that did not prompt me to cancel my op.

Hi Guys,
Talk about the luck of the Irish! (I was named after my older brother's favourite toy, an Irish character doll.)
The Friday op. went like a dream. Walking on Saturday and sent home Monday.
Still muddled in the head, and need a sleep every now and then. Could not make much sense of the computer last night.
All hospital staff were fabulous. Lots of smiles, and the goodbye hug and kiss from my nurse was icing on the cake!
Catheter stays in till 8th June. Slight irritation when I walk too far. Pain and nausea present but easily tolerable.
Future tests will indicate whether they got all the cancer or not.
What did those WWII pilots say? - "A piece of cake!"
Special thoughts to all who have experienced complications in their surgery. To date, I'm in the OK percentage.
The guy in the next bed had prostate biopsy last week, and was ambulanced in due to resultant infection.
Makes me appreciate every little thing that's gone right for me.

Good news indeed Mike. Pleased all has gone well.

Could have done without the reference to the catheter however, having been there, done that etc..

I got a call from the hospital on Fri asking if I'd go in yesterday which I did. A fiddle, a prod and a rear examination later (the latter should be banned!!) the doc concluded that whatever is going on, it's not the prostate. They took a blood sample and I'm booked in for a flexible Cystoscopy and ultra sound scan.. the former of the last 2 being another method of torture so look away Graham All my notes have 'Fast Track' stickers on the top.. quietly pleasing but equally disconcerting

I'm booked in for a flexible Cystoscopy

Know all about that Dave. When they aren't wanting me as an overnight guest, I am treated to one of those every six months, along with a course of "catheter in, jollop in, catheter out, on yer bike, see yer next week torture - laughingly called "maintainance"

At he first one of the last batch, my Mcmillan nurse was delayed. When I got to the treatment room I was met with, "Hello, I'm a first year meedical student, would you mind awfully if I catheterised you?"

I replied, "I would mind if you catheterised me awfully."


Hope all goes well for you Dave, and therre are no nasty surprises in store.

Yes indeed.. the folk on t'other end of the equipment tend to be upbeat about these things don't they. I'm sure their attitude would change were they on the receiving end! Got a call from the horsepiddle this very morning booking me in for the ultra sound scan at 11:15 tomorrow. Fast track certainly worked there! The cystoscopy is rather more tiresome though. They booked me in on 13th June which we confirmed when we got home yesterday is the day my medical for National Express is due Having spoken to them again this morning, I was first offered next Wed (they only do this 'procedure' on a Wed!!!) which I accepted. They phoned back a minute later to say there wasn't a clinic next Wed The chap who does it isn't there the week after 13th June so I now have to wait until July 4th. Fast Track obviously didn't work there!

BTW.. my dad had cancer of the bladder and explained the 'procedure' of the cystoscopy on more than one occasion and in detail so I'm really not looking forward to it. When even the doctor describes it as 'unpleasant' you know you're in for a rough ride! That said, having a finger shoved up my @rse yesterday wasn't pleasant either and he didn't comment on that!
