Re: Missing P-40 found in the Sahara
Interesting
It is just possible that large parts of the prototype Viscount are still buried in the Sahara where it simulated force landed on test, had a C?C collapse and was covered by the dunes.
Unlike the Hermes that was searched for a few years back, and found to have gone, there were no reports of it being cut up and carted off by locals, where the Hermes certainly was as a BOAC recovery team set to see what was salvageable met a camel train coming the opposite direction with large chunks or Hermes, something the team that went to look for it seemed unaware of.
This story above shows how well something can be preserved in the hot dry desert

I wonder how much is left of Shackleton Pelican 16 after it crash landed in the Saraha in 1994.
Can't see it but it's location is here - http://maps.google.com/maps?q=22.6305,- ... 7&t=h&z=19

Re: Missing P-40 found in the Sahara
Did they go and get bits of that back??
I doubt if much would be seen as the shifting dunes soon cover things and it could be many years before they re appear and then get lost again if no one is there to notice it's reappearance.
