Do the North Americans not use inches for baro pressure correction? If so they must be very confused when over here!

They do, indeed, Keith, and there have been a number of incidents involving American crews mis-setting their altimeters because of it. See my first post to Garry explaining why in UK controllers are required to state the unit of measurement if the pressure setting is below 1000 hPa.
