I have tried to apply some older Swiss Air Force repaints by Markus Schindler to Dave's FSX F58 Hunter models but get a black bird. Are they a completely different texture mappings and therefore not at all compatible? Is there an easy way to convert them? Have done a big search and not found others having a problem so maybe I am missing something.
Managed to have a look with dxt.bmp and the mapping is totally different so I expect there is no compatibility or means to covert the FS9 paints to fit the FSX models. Surprised this has not surfaced a mention in researching e.g. in repaint readme's, reviews and these and similar boards.
Main point is that I am enjoying DG's Hunters very much in FSX - thank you again Dave!
. . however (!) it is weird that over on flightsim, there are FSX repaints by Henry William (the files are clearly are dds and have the fsx model texture mapping) BUT they reference a 2004 HUNTPAK3 4 set of models to which they should be applied. Very stumped now.
Are you sure that the different mapping isn't just the FSX .dds files being the other way up? I've no idea since I don't have either version of the hunter.
The best thing to do is try it out (with fingers crossed). You never know it might work, and lets face it, what is the worst that could happen? A texture that doesn't work that can easily be removed.
I've just had a look at 'like' examples of paints from both the FS9 and FSX models and DG appears to have mapped the FSX model completely different to FS9. As an example.. the sides (left and right) in FS9 are 2 separate maps.. in FSX, it's a single map Fus.dds. That's the first one I looked at. Looking at the file count.. there are 27 bmp's in the FS9 folder.. 5 in the FSX folder and that includes thumbnail and texture config! I'm sure they're all the same bits but they're certainly mapped differently
The mapping on the FSX models is totally different to the FS9 ones, and therefore not compatible in the slightest. Not sure about the Henry William repaints, as I'm away from home at the moment, and can't check them out.
