Never really knew much about him until his death. :dunno:

However the Monkees are obvious global icons.

Born up the road from me in Manchester.

RIP fella. :((

Hi Eddie

They were quite big when I was younger but a bit before your time :)

I have strong memories of those days but hearing and seeing the Monkees title sequence actually takes me back there...if you follow.

A nice sort of crazy humour :)

My thought and prayers to Davy's family. A lot of the youngsters here may not know that Davy Jones played The Artful Doger in the original Broadway production of Oliver! He also was on the Ed Sullivan show here the night of The Beatles first appearance.

The Monkees were very popular here especially among young teenage girls. They had some good songs written by people like Carol King and Neil Diamond. That said, for me they were no substitute for The Beatles!

And passed on a horse ranch up the road about 30 minutes, from me. :|

I watched the Monkees saturday morning shows of course.

I think there was a time when the Monkees outsold both The Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined.

Now that's something. :)
