Out of the stone age

Post by Captain Pugwash »

Well it finally happened, the old computer could not take the modern world any longer and died. :excited:
So there i was getting info from Larry about a new computer build and getting my mind around this, but as usual my family missed the computer and my lad needed to do school work. with the info from Larry i went out to see if i could get an off shelf unit that would do everything i needed.
I was a bit more savvy than i was the last time so no BS from salesmen.

so this is what i got
windows 7 home premium 64 bit, now upgraded
intel core i7 2600 3.4ghz
nvidia geforce GTX56oTi 1280mb
64gb solid state drive + 2tb hard drive
16gb DDR3 memory
Blu ray/Super multi combo drive

got fsx on and now it works as it should no slide show, albet everything is still from box. no add ons or other stuff.
fs9 working so i could get back to cbfs va
and now i hear microsoft is bring out a new flightsim :hide:

as i have been away for some time i need to educate myself as to what is good and bad in the flightsim world, ie aircraft and scenery.
any tips would be great.

Hello Dave :hello:

Nice to see you

Looks impressive...I have W7 64 but am not happy...seems you are :)

Microsoft Flight is really a game not a simulator...FS.X remains tops for the time being :)

Hiya Dave :hello:

Nice to see you too

You have a pretty potent system there so I'd expect FSX to run well.. at default settings and beyond ;) I've used FSX more recently than ever before.. thanks in part to the GTX560Ti, a gig more ram (I'm still on XP32bit) and finding my flightsim HD was still 'jumpered' to Sata1.. now Sata2 as it should have been with this mobo 8) This said.. I don't fly outside the UK as the default FSX world is still pony (with a capital P). The later versions of GenX (I have v2.. v3 is the latest) run better and look better.. add Treescape from EarthSim and it looks better still.. very much better than FS9 with all the available addons added on.

Of course.. all this is for the UK only but it does prove that FSX can 'look' more realistic than FS9 even though it has a more 'cartoony' look about it sometimes. On a system like yours.. it will run better but not look any less cartoony if that makes sense :) Like FS9.. it will take as much money as you're prepared to throw at it so in the end.. little changes
