Correct position for fs9.exe
Having a spot other at present.
Can a knowledgeable person please tell me what is the correct position for the fs9.exe?
At present I have the FS9 no cd exe positioned in the main FS9 folder but I have a distant memory that the correct place is somewhere in Documents!!!?
Currently I use the deesktop icon to summon up FS9 but, probably because I have installed a great many MAIW AI acft the century of flight picture stays onscreen for ages (2 minutes) before the operating screen comes up to enable one to begin flying. Sometimes the whole program just does not respond!! "Oh Calamity1" (Quote from actor of many years ago named Robson Hare")

Re: Correct position for fs9.exe
Your correct the FS9.exe file is in the main fs directory
I can't remember having slowness starting up FS9, however I have definately had it after selecting a flight where there is lots of scenery or AI. Could there be a more fundemental computer problem?

Many thanks for your reply.
Could be that my seven year old computer with original HD might just be coming to the end of its useful life!
May have to buy a new computer. I have stuck with Windows XP so far, I find that it works well, can one run FS9 with Windows 7, or whatever the new operating system is?

Hi Hobby
Yes.. FS9 runs well under Win7. PeterM has a very rapid system running FS9 under Win7 and he see's no good reason to change
Like all things.. the more you add, the longer it will take to load and this, coupled with the fact your system is getting a little old is probably the reason for your slow starts. I have a gallon of traffic files and AI on my FS9 install and it's not quick to start.. the first start of the day in particular. 2mins isn't bad!
Re the fs9.exe.. you have it where it should be as Ben said. You're probably thinking of the fs9.cfg which will be in Documents/user/Microsoft/FS9.. something like that

Re: Correct position for fs9.exe
Hi everyone,
21:45 Hrs GMT.
I had a look at my hard drive, mouse, stick and graphics card this afternoon via the 'system' and the 'device manager' assured me that all those components were working just fine.
So it had to be a file witin FS9. After relations visited this evening I went straight to my FS9 scenery cfg and had a close look.
Wow!!! Bit like Morecambe and Wise - "All the notes were there but definitely not in the right order".
All the scenery files were listed but the Area Nos. were jumbled up and did not run in sequence. So I just sat and sequentially renumbered from the first number out of sequence. Saved the new FS9 scenery CFG and restarted FS9.
The whole program speeded up and although it did take a minute to produce the operating screen - 'create a flight' etc. The little default Cessna rotated as is usual, earlier today it had hung in static suspension, the airport selected came up speedily and the system appears to have settled back to its usual reasonably fluid self.
So that was the answer to my problem - a corrupted scenery cfg which responded to renumbering.
Many thanks for your reassurances that I had put the FS9.exe where it should be.

Hi Hobby
Many of us with older, more extensive installs of FS9 dare not look at the scenery.cfg file
I'm glad you managed to speed things up a little with the re-numbering. Fingers crossed it stays 'in good order' and leaves you in peace

Re: Correct position for fs9.exe
Correction to Dave's statement about me and Windows 7...I'm still on Windows XP as some of my aircraft and things would not run on a 64 bit system.
You have the exe file in the correct place. If you have a very large collection of AI Traffic aircraft and scenery, as I have, then the startup of FS9 will be rather slow as it looks at it all.
Tip...you can get to the default Flight much quicker after the initial menu screen appears if before you select the flight, you got to Settings > Traffic first and pull the Traffic slider to Zero. You can always slide it to an appropriate figure AFTER you have got to your start point with the aircraft of your choice.

Re: Correct position for fs9.exe
Sri for the misinformation Peter. I knew you'd gone to Win7 and last I heard you were happy with how FS9 was running. I'd no idea you'd moved back
You could always go to a 32-bit Win7 if the aircraft you were having problems with don't like the 62-bit version. At least it will be up to date and remain so for some time yet

No, I have never been on Windows 7 Dave...My wife is on Windows 7 on her laptops...I rather like XP and would only change if I wanted to go 64bit
