I took the plunge and if you ask me it's an ' All systems go, engine running,floor the throttle,away you go, enjoy the breathtaking scenery! ' kind of sim. Certainly no competitor to FS9 or FSX for the time being. In fact one thing that makes me undoubtedly aware of when flying AeroflyFS is how extraordinairy lucky we are to have FSX ( yes, FS9 too, rest assured... )

The few things that make AeroflyFS worthwile to have next to FS9/FSX are the amazing scenery and likewise amazing performance ( i have to say i don't have Switzerland Professional X to compare ). Literally a blast and extremely exiting to fly the F-18 low and fast thru all the gorgeous valley's and over the beautifully depicted Alps. Possibly the next best thing to a ride in the backseat of a real Swiss Af Hornet F/A-18D. In my ' Flying a jetfighter from my bedroom ' book already worth the price of this newcomer in our beloved flightsimming world.

I do like flying the Pitts too because both the external and internal models are very well done, i'd say even stand out to the others. All external models are nice but most VC's are more or less mediocre if you ask me. That wouldn't matter that much if only they were clickable but they aren't... In fact, apart from the throttle, you have no control over your engine, engine gauges seem to act a little peculiar too. While radios and nav instruments are all there you cannot operate them...

In short, it's a good fun 'jump in and fly' sim which looks gorgeous and 'feels' great but you can leave your flight plan at home and you won't be bothered by ATC or any other traffic whatsoever. Summer day flying only, no rain but the clouds and fog ( adjustable, as is the wind )look pretty good.

Mind you, this all IMHO of course.

I certainly don't regret having bought it, i'm sure i'll get as much fun and more out of it to cover the cost. And on top of that, i can always feel like a 'real pilot' when i fly my A2A FSX Accusim Spitfire.

Checked out the demo videos. Scenery looks good, but it looks like you're limited to Switzerland, so you'd expect detail. Wasn't sure abou some of the sounds, particularly in the glider; either it was having trouble with tone changes, or is there some weird sound instrument in gliders? That bit annoyed me. The crash models seem better than FS9/X, but as far as "real" goes, I don't think a jet fighter could do press-ups as demonstrated. From what I saw, I would not rate it much above "Flight Unlimited" from 1994, or "FUII" 1997, both DOS. Maybe my memory fails me, but at the time, those graphics were pretty astounding.

Sounds like it's good to have for those 'Can't be arsed days', when you need some fun and relaxation and this would fit the bill.

Maybe not a serious Sim but who wants to be serious all the time.

With FS9, sometimes all I want to do is CTRL E and do a circuit

Many things have their place for occasional use so if you have a little spare cash there is never any harm in buying something like this and probably good for the kids too who just want a bit of excitment and give you a bit of peace for the duration.

I wonder, being Aerofly, if it comes in a zipper file
