Althouth FS9 is my preferred sim, decided to get FSX out of the box from 2 years ago and install it. Installed just fine into a seperate directory on my SSD drive called FSX, then SP1 followed by Acceleration. Now getting the cannot activate error message. Any clues please?
Did you activate FSX and launch the program before putting on SP1 and the Acceleration?
The base product needs to be activated before you add ACC. I seem to recall the only way to sort it was uninstall and reinstall if you'd missed this step.
That's something I'd thought of too Ben. Install one.. acitvate/fly it once.. install SP1.. fly it once then bang ACC on. It sound's like it's got too far down the chain.
Had the same problem, I looked around the forums and came up with this, and it worked for me.
Firstly you will need to create a new user account with administrator privileges, then simply activate FSX from there.
I think that's all, it was a year or more ago when I had the problem and I could have forgotten something.
I hope it works for you.
Keep us informed how you get on Nev. I'm about to dip a late toe into Win7 (the flying pc is finally moving into the 21st century!) and I'll no doubt stumble into the same issues you're having.
I know that PeterM has had 9 running on Win7 since it was released and has been very happy with it's performance (although he does run it on an i7 with a fistful of ram!) I gather it's more like XP than Vista (who'd want anything like Vista!!!) which pleases me no end. My dabbling into Win7 failed last night.. perhaps the arrival of yet another new PSU this morning will have more positive results
And there's more. I got another error message to say my PC could not contact the activation server, so I had to remove the software compatibility settings (from XP) and remove the 'run as administrator' (you can access these features by right clicking on the FSX icon, then click properties and finally Compatibility)
