A question was asked on Monday night at the Area Council meeting of the Fellowship of the Services.
Someone wanted to know what the rank of A/LA was. Even though there were ex matelots present, no answer was forthcoming.

Former naval ratings - Artificer / Leading Artificer, (Engine Room, Electrical, Ordnance),
superceded by Technician/Specialist.
