It seems like a lifetime but.. dualcore LIVES once more
The nice man from UPS delivered my replacement PSU from those fine folk at Corsair in Holland so I bit the bullet and installed it. Initially.. I got scared 
Having made the few connections necessary, I hit the ON button and all the fans wound up but no post 
Tried the reset and still no post 
Then (light bulb icon) I decided to press the reset button on the mobo (darned sneaky devils at Asus!) and Bob's your aunts first cousin's girlfriends best mate Got a new LG DVDR in too which 'appears' to work so I say goodbye to LiteOn who's CD/DVD writers I've used for years but have found the last two I've bought have failed in short order. FIngers crossed the LG gives better service 
I can now try and enjoy the GTX 560Ti I saw working for a day before the world collapsed
