Hi Mike
You might have to settle for a ride in a Smart Car
Re: Maplin...A Cautionary Tale...
Hi Peter, as I am aware from your writing, you entered into a contract with Amazon to purchase the hard drive for the amount advertised and that is all you have to pay.
Should they have made a mistake on the pricing then they have to cover the loss themselves, no-one can advertise a product for say £129 then demand extra payment afterwards as you entered into a contract with the seller to pay that amount and they have to adhere to that. If they try to take further payment from you then inform your credit card company sending them a copy of the agreed price and they should be able to act on your behalf.
Not sure whether Amazon come under British Law 'Sales of Goods Act' but for your information:

Kind regards
Nigel

Re: Maplin...A Cautionary Tale...
Thanks Nigel and others who replied...I don't have any argument with Amazon of course as they sold me the goods at their advertised price and took the money from my credit card account.
The only problem I have is with the suppliers Maplin who have placed that negative credit note on their Despatch Note for £-70.00. I get the feeling that if ever I buy anything from Maplin again, they will simply add that extra £70 to the bill.
I think they might have lost a customer (a pretty regular one too! ). I guess I will just keep the Relevant documents in case they ever communicate...The 3 TB drive is now in service and has 67% of free space remaining!

Re: Maplin...A Cautionary Tale...
Peter : I don't think it is a negative credit note. It is a credit note which leaves your account straight after the debit being for £70 more than the agreed selling price via Amazon. I doubt that there will be any further problems , and I feel pretty certain that you can trade with maplin without any problems

Re: Maplin...A Cautionary Tale...
Here in the US, this happens occasionally, but the billing is much more clear that the "credit note" is commented that it is to offset the difference in wholesale price and selling price and a further note at the bottom of the credit note not being an invoice and being for accounting purposes only. It's something that a lot of companies have to do with the way the IRS works and can cause confusion if you don't read in full, but that's why they put the notes on the credits to make it clear as they can that you don't actually owe anything and it's an accounting move to reconcile their books.

Re: Maplin...A Cautionary Tale...
Thanks Chris and Chris...Well it certainly has me confused but I find your posts reassuring.
BTW...I note that Amazon have now put the price of that item up by £40...so it is still £30 below Maplin, the supplier's price.
