End of an Era for easyJet

Yesterday (01 Nov) easyJet retired their last two Boeing 737's

Both aircraft are to be flown to Kemble for Part Out and scrapping.

Oddly the last few 737's survived the first withdrawls of Airbus A.319, a type that recently saw the last example ordered enter service with the airline which is the Worlds largest operator of the type.

The airline still has 36 A.320's on order plus a couple of A.321 originally ordered by GB Airways which was taken over by easyJet.

The last A.321 in service with them left the fleet last year but the two A.321 on order were defrred rather than cancelled. It might be that they will just keep the option open to enable an early delivery of either 319 or 320 by reactivating the order and swapping the type.

Blimey.. I thought EJ had 800's too :-O Certainly.. if ever there were two components of aviation synonymous with each other, it would be EasyJet and the B737. Ah well.. hats off to Airbus I guess :)

The replacement process has been on the go a long time and A.319 have been dominate for many years

Re-runs of the TV programmes featuring easyJet in the 737 days have givene the flase impression that it was still a 737 airline.

All have been sold for futher use apart from these two and one earlier this year which also went to Kemble.

They have operated 85 Boeing 737 of which three are still on their books as 'stored'...these two plus one owned by Wells Fargo Bank

They have bought 172 Airbus A.319, fifteen are with easyJet Switzerland, five sold on and one in store leaving a current fleet of 151.

A total of 44 A.320's have served, some were acquired in the GB Airways takeover and some they ordered after finding them useful. Twlelve of the ex GB machines have been sold leavin 32 in service with ten on order.

They did have eight A.321 but thye have all gone

In addition they flew four Boeing 757's for a short time on lease.

Yes.. a continual process of replacement must have been going on for yonks as they only had 3 left on the books. I don't go anywhere to see them so it's passed me by. I see the occasional one where I am dependant on which end of the rwy is in use (out of Luton I guess) but never take much notice. It's orange and white.. it'e EasyJet.. look away! :lol: I found the story online and noted they're 700's ;)

I think Luton and Belfast were the last to use them with Luton still having about half a dozen at the beginning of this year so given the amount based at any one airport, there was still a fairly high chance of it being a 737 seen.

I've only ever see one easyJet on the ground...an A.319 but that was more recent than Ryanair, the only aircraft I've ever seen from that carrier on the ground were six One-Elevens an HS.748 and a Bandeirante. :lol:
