It's ironic Rob that my Asus P5Q Deluxe has more mobo case fan connections than I have fans and the fans I have do not have the small 3-pin connectors! It'll certainly do no harm having them direct to the PSU and on constantly. With the temp where you are, they'd probably run constantly anyway mate
Scratch that, I've re read and it makes sense now. The small 3pin connector from one of the fans should also fit on the small 4 pin connector on your motherboard, only one of the pins will be spare. This way you can use the 3pin or newer 4pin fan type. For example the CPU fan connector on my new motherboard is 4 pin, but a 3 pin CPU fan is also supported.there is a 'key' on the plastic moulding so it can only go on one way and this is fine
Ah-ha.......thanks Ben. Will take a look tomorrow. I was totally baffled last night so hopefully you've solved the mystery! My simple noggin evidently isn't suited to such complex things as PC building!!! LOL
Blimey.. sri if I took you off track Rob. I was thinking you meant the large 4-pin Molex connectors (oft seen on case fans) and not the smaller, similar to the 3-pin connectors. Ben is absolutely right that you can use these on 3 pin female mobo connectors
.....and another question!!! Probably a stupid one. Hopefully firing up the new PC for the first time tonight. I have the SSD & Caviar Black installed, when I fire it up do I get the option of what drive to install windows on? Or should I install the caviar black after I have windows installed on the SSD?
