John Wayne flies BOAC

Post by DarrenL »

Just a bit of something I just caught, but in the 1975 film Brannigan (on Channel 5 right now) John Wayne in the title role just flew into Heathrow in a full BOAC liveried 747 (Speedbird on the tail, blue line to nose) but British Airways on the fuselage. I know all the different half/half/ and full liveries they used during the change over to BA and seen all the photos but never thought I'd see one moving :)

Looked just like this one - http://www.airliners.net/photo/British- ... 0d1f4ee8ab

In 1975 I was only 4 so I might not have remembered seeing one.

Some of the 747's had just been delivered in BOAC so it took some time for their next scheduled paint...G-AWNL for example

Some of the Merchantmen that went to Air Bridge in 1979 were still in BEA livery.

BA only repainted when a paint was due or needed for technical reasons except for the ex Cambrian and Northeast aircraft whuch were progressively painted and those aircraft quickly adopted full BA livery with only some aircraft in previous with titles for a short time and not partial paints. :)

Oh yes.. good old EM. The first to be converted to 953C, operated the first Merchantman service.. and the first of the 3 BA paints to be sold in '76 :)

Have we gone OT a little? *-) :worried:
