Vanguard

Post by Dev One »

Aeroplane monthly magazine are proposing to publish a Data Base of the Vanguard in the next issue ( January 2012). Why are they always a couple of months ahead - I've just received my Dec 2011 issue today!

Silly really, you go to get it in January and it will be long gone.

Why can't they just put it out in the current month. :wall:

I suppose I should have said 'the next issue' - but that could be just as confusing?
Dave B next time you are at Brooklands give my uncle a 'pat on the head' please - his ashes are there somewhere near the Pavillion I believe.
( R.R.(Ron) Paine).
BTW as an apprentice I worked on the Prototype Vanguard, helped setting the engine controls in the Flight shed, also some sundry bits during its gestation.

Hi Keith :hello:

There's a small garden area not far from the Pavillion behind the Strat Chamber. He may be there mate.. I'll look for a commemorative plate tomorrow ;)

Re Aeroplane.. in all the years I've bought it, I've never realised the discrepancy with the issue date. Shows how much attention I pay  In reality, I rarely buy each one now. I look at the cover and if something gets my attention, I buy it. Otherwise, it stays on the shelf ;)

Keith..

Had a crap day.. the car broke down as I got to Brooklands and it rained like a good'un for most of the time I was there. However, I made sure I went and had a look in the Garden of Remembrance and I took these for you. My sincere apologies for them not being sharp.. I didn't have the camera with me at the time so I took these quickly on the phone as the rain eased..

Your uncles plate down at the end..

It's a nice little area mate and well kept. I said hello for you
Will take some more with the camera if you wish.. as long as it's not raining!

DaveB, Many, many thanks for your efforts, those pictures are more than adequate. I made it to his funeral in 2004, a month after moving here to France, but I could not make it to his memorial service held at Brooklands, although my son did make it for the family.
I have not seen any pictures before of this area, so again many thanks.
My father was also very much associated with Brooklands & reputedly was also a Vickers apprentice ( as was Ron) & myself of course! My father said he was kicked out of Vickers after 6 months, but then joined Brooklands Aviation & worked also for various private owners. He flew a lot with George Lowdell whilst testing the Wolseley Aero engine ( which came to nought).
Kind regards
Keith

PS, you have had a crap day - just saw that your video card died as well as your car - whats third? Hope your car was mended easily ( & cheaply!)
