I wonder if anyone thinks we're talking about the wings :worried:

This is the one the man in the forum was complaining about. Clearly the wrong colour.

That's more like BOAC purple!!

He did say that the BEA Aero Classics 953 is ok though. I'm siding with Eric. :hide:

That's good.
If the blue on the bottom one is more like the correct shade of green, then my eyes are ok. :)

Seriously whatever the exact shade, the BEA colour is nearly smack in the middle of blue & green.
I wonder if people see either blue or green as the more dominant colour and that stands out more to them.

I do think it photographs slightly more blue than it is though, which I don't understand.
I remember thinking how much green there was in ZK when seen in the flesh. Still greeny blue mind.

I think your right about perception of colour David :)

As for pics, I've always maintained it doesn't photograph correctly...same with landor grey always came out much lighter

The BEA green was unstable and about halfway through the painting they were so concerned about how shabby and patchy the aircraft were looking they changed to a new polyurethane paint and started repainting those already done.

Even though it did fade to a matt blue it was never like the Oxford blue that's said to be a match and most unlike many representation of it which the only correct colour on decals I've personally seen was that on the Airfix release in FJ.

As mentioned before when it faded to matt blue it did so with a purple tinge very similar to a paint used on Ford Thames vans (Anglia's) which had a similar tinge

When faded it was also blotchy and at imes in certain light a little chalky.

It certainly was on of those odd colours and the whole idea behind using it was the BEA wanted a distinct image so moved away from the fairly standard cheat line colours then in use...

Nice that the Vanguard model is in about the right colour but then they kick themselves in the nuts with those awful windows that are also the wrong shape.....talk about loud

Interesting stuff, ta.

Right about the windows too. You don't miss a thing. ;)
Too round and a tad too light. :-O
I can spot errors for the types I've modelled, but I don't see them with any others until it's pointed out to me.

Is that a like a Bakers Dozen, a Bookers Couple? ;)

I assume that top one is version 1 of the model. Looks a bit rough compared to the other. Steer clear of that one then.

I like the 1:400 stuff too.
I've got an Aero Classics Comet 4C. Mexicana as that was the only one I could get hold of that was a correct livery on a 4C.
And Gemini Jets BA VC10, BEA Trident 2 & Dan-Air 1-11 500. No surprises there then. :)

My VC10's are Gemini Jets.. BA Red Tail and BOAC.. as are the T2 (BEARS) and T3(BEAFJ - ZuluKilo). For quality, I think Gemini are better but there are no other 1:400 Vanguards than Aero Classics so it's the old Rock and Hard Place. I don't know WTF happened with that top model mate. All of mine look like they used the same mould and are far superior (same as the lower one). The Vanguards are as easy to get hold of as hens teeth so one has to strike when the time is right. Two of mine were only in stock abroad (1 in Portugal and 1 in the States) so cost rather more than the original asking price! Least said, soon is mended! :-#
