Just noticed this on the Playhorizons website, since ground shadowing is the only thing I have seen that's new on Flight (dynamics excluded) this does look very nice.
Shadows help to give great indications of height and depth.

If MS Flight isn't backwardly compatible with FSX aircraft and scenery then this will be on the shopping list.

Re: FSX ground shadowing application
Hi Folks
"Ground shadowing" is not new in Flight.
Sorry, not picking on you here,
but there's a couple of numpties inhabiting that Flight thread over at AVSIM
who need to actually spend some time in the current sim
rather than forum surfing spouting their clueless opinionated guff as fact.
FSX mesh has always been truly self-shadowing,
as well as having active lc tile lighting.
Might even have been present in previous versions.
Possibly in FS2002.
Mark's screenies do look stunning,
just a guess, but pretty certain,
it's a combined weather/shader tweak.

I've never felt so frustrated....... died so frequently/spectacularly/or needlessly....... yet had so much fun, in a long time.

Re: FSX ground shadowing application
Well Paul, it may have been there all the time, but I've never seen anything that good, and I often fly over mountainous areas such as Orbx's Pacific North West. Are you saying that with some tweeking, we could get those results now ? I'd love to know how to do it!
Re: FSX ground shadowing application
I know about the ground shadow option, but for me it has only ever worked on autogen trees and buildings I have never seen any ground mass shadowing on hills and mountains.basys wrote:Hi Folks

Also when I say "Flight" I mean the new MS Flight, those images with the strong shadowing look like the new as yet unreleased sim. I have never seen anything like that in anyone's FSX/FS9 screenshots.
Example being screen 3 on here - http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/

Hi Folks
Darren -
Understood you were referring to MS Flight.
Reason for my posting was to curtail the spread of misinformation.
Seeing terrain mesh shadows is dependent on weather, time of day, and user's viewpoint.
A few examples which show terrain mesh shadows in FSX -

others look like they involve recompiling models.
It would take a lot of investgation & testing
to obtain results anywhere near on par with Mark's screenies.
For performance reasons,
a number of features were disabled, or not included, in the as released product.
Some of their hooks are still present in the code, e.g. in shaders.
EDIT -
From Mark's latest post, some aspects are due to enbseries shader mods.
