Just a note on using photos to make models as you mentiones the canopy being done from a pic so will be right...maybe not

You can't really use phots stright off

If an aeroplane is photographed amid ship then the two ends will be undersized as they are further away

I didn't have Superfreighter plans so had to use prototype plans and build up the extras

The photo I used for the nose was a side on but the rear fuse on the photo was mid dorsal on the model

When scaling the nose...it was photographed for the nose side..I had to use depth and allow for the fact the top and bottom would be short.

Scaling the nose vertically meant the fuse lost about 15 feet in length do to the tail being further away and smaller :-O

The side of a circular fuse..or the Vulcan canopy will be out on a photo

The top and bottom on the fuse is in the middle and on a 12 foot diameter fuse for example it will be 6 feet further away...so naturally the image as seen by the camera and the eye is reduced in depth to real measurements.

So the model, made correctly would be deeper than how it actually appears because the mode is 3D and the centre will be further away on the model too giving the right look.

Telephoto lenses do the opposite and make the fuse look too deep . :wall:

If you use photos, and sometimes you have to...you have to make lots of allowances or it will be wrong, very wrong. *-)

Thanks Garry very good point,I only used a photo of the cockpit hood only and scaled from the windows to try and match the canopy size to the windows the more I look at the model the more your points stand out so I will be getting down to some major rework tailfin nose and wings all going to get some real makeovers so will have a good look at a full rescale of the whole lot as I go through the parts got some really good data now to work from ( kinda wish I had done all this before I started but will learn from this as I build the other two models) once I have got the B1 sorted I will redo the Avro Atlantic and B3 Vulcan applying the lessons learned :)

The bigger the aeroplane the less likely you're going to get away with it easily.

The Vulcan is huge :lol:

Hi Doug

I think everybody's covered most of the tweaks you need to do but since you ask there's one small detail that I observed from studying the photos posted earlier in the thread and from looking at your screen shots you might what to see if you could 'blunt' to tip of the nose cone just a little I know its picky as its pretty much there as it is and i don't know if it would be too much hassle to do but I just thought I'd mention it just in case its something simple that gets overlooked. Looking great though!

thanks to Garry for noticing the scale issues i have restarted the model with the correct proportions all very obvious when compared together both are the same scale
