Well Mouldy - someone had to respond... :)

The thing with FSX, we've always known it runs like a dawg on an awful lot of hardware but it's a case of trade offs. For me (and probably quite a few others) the advantages of FSX outweigh the disadvantages of the performance issues - although it was touch and go in the early days. I've got what might now be described as a modest system and I can run FSX close to max on the sliders and generally get a very smooth flight, even around Seattle with FTX (a big reason for moving to FSX if ever there was one). For an illustration of some of these trade offs there's a thread on Avsim that illustrates very nicely the progression from FS98 through to FSX and the quality difference between FS9 and FSX is very apparent. For those interested in seeing it go to http://forum.avsim.net/topic/323844-fli ... reenshots/ , scroll through and you see FS9 screenshots but someone in that thread has the same screen shots from FS98 on (how green was FS98 :-O ).

The irony (and oh the irony!) is that just as hardware is appearing that will run it to its true capabilities we see a new version on the horizon that looks better, flys better and performs better (at least that's the news on the streets at the moment).

It's not a case of the Emperors New Clothes - no deception involved - more a case that the clothes were there but it took a hell of a long time to get them on (just in time to get changed again)! Entirely accepted that FSX is not everyone's cup of tea and it's a bit of an investment to get it to run properly but look on the bright side, if FSX runs half decently today just think how fast Flight will run when it comes out (at the end of this year?).

Regards,
Chris

I think you have made some good points there, I am hoping that the new version will be like going from FS2000 to FS2002 we can recall the huge leap in quality and smoothness when that came out :)
