Would Be Funny...

Post by ChrisHunt »

It would be funny if it wasn't quite so tragic (tragic with a very small t)... the new version of IE (9) 64 bit isn't compatible with Microsoft's own Silverlight. Silverlight is needed to view the webisodes of MS Flight so had to go back to Firefox to do that. Worth looking at the lates MS Flight video by the way - you get about 30 seconds of trees.

Mind you Silverlight isn't the only thing that the 64bit version of IE is incompatible with, there's quite a bit, including YouTube - I'm not at all sure why it's even available :dunno:

Chris

The 64 bit versions of IE don't support any pluggins, but why aren't you running the 32 bit one which is default, both get installed? :dunno:

Firefox is only 32bit, so its not like your compairing apples with aples ;)

The only youtube content that will be viewable on the x64 IE will be anything in HTML5.

That Ben is because the 64bit version installed itself onto my toolbar and I was too stupid to remember that there are two versions! Your post was a timely reminder, all is well with the IE world again.

lol No worries mate, just thought it really strange that you were using the 64bit version. TBH I din't know why they bother with a 64bit version as it doesn't seem to serve any purpose!

My thoughts too Ben, given its compatibility issues I would have thought MS would hold off until there is a general catch up with 64bit. Also it's the 64bit version that automatically gets installed to the toolbar - go figure eh! :dunno:

Yep, that is odd, mine just updates the shortcuts etc to the 32 bit one, so perhaps something funny going on there. :dunno:
