ILS frequencies at airports

Only yesterday after having been flight simming since FS98 that I found out something new, please don't laugh but this really has annoyed me!!

Prior to landing at any airport one usually clicks on the arrival airport say Manchester or Heathrow and all the information regarding ILS Approaches are given in the magical white box that appears, well, not so for Newcastle - no ILS frequencies are listed within the information box and for many years I just relied upon the ADF at each end to guide me in onto the runway heading as with some other airports.

It was only yesterday that when zooming in on map view and by accident clicking on the end of Newcastles' runway did the ILS frequencies then appear in a seperate box. All these years flying FS and thought that Newcastle plus others were still operating in VMC Met conditions through lack of money to put these facilities into place or either MS were too lazy to put the ILS into the airports !!

Why on earth did MS do it this way? Now I can at least land in poor vis without fear of an undershoot/overshoot.

Hi Nigel.I use the Aerad Europe & Middle East Supplement book or the appropriate aerodrome booklet ,if I have it, for this type of info.

Good old FSNavigator (in FS9) shows this anyway. If there IS one.. it's shown If in doubt.. there's always the Mk1 eyeball

If you are running FSX, try Plan-G

Just had a look at their forum Gordon, and its my favourite price! I'll definately give this a go.

According to their website it also works with FS9

Like Dave B, I use FSNav for any approach info but AFCAD will also give the full details on any airport in FS9, and it is free

I started searching Google for possible solutions to Nigel's nav problems. I found rumours that before the FSNavigator site went down, the version available for download was no longer a trial version. Following up on this, I did find a web site that claimed to have this version so I downloaded it and installed into FS9.

Now I don't think I have ever installed FSNavigator on this PC since I installed Win7 over a year ago. After starting FS9 more than 20 times and each time starting FSNavigator, it still works. I believe that if it was the trial version it would have stopped working after 20 "flights" in FS9. I didn't actually make any flights but I'm assuming that the trigger would be FS9 starting.

So maybe there is a full version out there?

Yes.. the trigger was starting/opening FS9 and FSNav. Can't remember if it was 20 or 10 but I do remember that one in every so many downloads was the full version with the time limit removed. The demo was the full version anyway but restricted, as you say, to so many uses.
HAD the rewrite to FSX spec have been completed before the author had to pull the plug.. I may now be in a position where FSX doesn't look 'cartoony' as I'd be using it fulltime. Sadly, the rewrite was never finished so I stay with FS9 and the last FSNav release. That said.. I am happy to do so
If the full version is out there Nige.. go get it. It's a comparatively small program that doesn't need the mass of plugins or system resources later Nav progs require though to get the best out of it (as with all similar progs) it's best viewed fullscreen on a second monitor
