HJG Tristar question

Post by VEGAS »

Hi chaps,

apologies if this sounds like a daft question but I'm amongst friends so I guess you are used to it.

Basically, I'm trying to install the HJG Tristar into FSX.

But have problem with the aircraft showing up in FSX.

Followed the instructions to the letter ie Delete the file "aircraft.cfg" and rename the file "aircraft_fsx.cfg" to "aircraft.cfg"

Can't find the file aircraft_fsx.cfg anywhere in the package. Hence it won't show up in the aircraft list in FSX.

Where should this file be hiding?

Once I know I can amend it as required.

Cheers.

BTW - I'd ask at the HJG forum but its like walking into a pub where I don't know anybody. This is my local here if you catch my drift! :guinn:

If you can't find it Eddie.. chances are it wasn't there. Can you not see them as 'others' or whatever it is FSX calls aircraft without FSX-type config entries??

Point is matey.. both cfgs are usually put in the main aircraft folder and you use the one you want. If there's only one there, where else would the other one be :dunno:

That's why it's best to ask there :)

Yeh.. but why break with convention and put it somewhere else.. if it's there at all? Is HJG starting a new trend or is it putting 2 fingers up to convention?? *-)

EDIT..

Right Eddie.. what they've done is sent you down the garden path.. there IS no aircraft_fsx.cfg. I've just downloaded them all and there isn't one.. really  What they've done is made 2 [fltsim=] versions with each paint. The first one is for FS9 and if you look below, the next is for FSX. Cut and paste the FSX one onto the top of the aircraft.cfg and you should be ready to rock and roll ;)

Cheers fellas.

You've both touched on my thoughts!

Many of the HJG members are here so thats why I asked in this forum.

Just baffled about that FSX cfg file as it does'nt seem to be present in the downloads.

Glad you spotted it Dave. Not just me then. :)

Thanks for the pointer.

Will post some screenies of this beauty once I get it in the hanger.

Hello Mate..

I don't believe that. If you can drag'n'drop an FS9 model into FSX and it will show (albeit without a thumbnail).. there is nothing magic about an FSX config.

Step 2.. I'll put one into FSX and let you know what I find ;)

EDIT:
OK.. I won't say anything bad.. but you might be able to tell what I'm thinking!
1. You need to follow the steps I've already described but in addition you also need to..
2. Look in the panel folder. There are FS9 and FSX configs in there. Rename the panel.cfg to panel_FS9.cfg (or delete it) then rename the panel_fsx.cfg to panel.cfg. When you've done that..
3. Look in the sound folder. You will see 2 cfg's. Either rename or delete the file sound.cfg then rename the sound_fsx.cfg to sound.cfg.

4. Your TriStar will now show but without a thumbnail. Look under Lockheed ;)

5. You will need to select a 2D panel because the model doesn't come with a VC.

Ah-hem 8)
