They'll be Crown Copyright which as far as I'm aware doesn't preclude them being shown on a website.

Personally......I'll leave them be :)

Basically if it's not your own copyright we can't display them but they cane be posted as a link to access.

Some copyright are in the public domain and OK....as Skippy mentions.

We do like to keep it right but there has been time when I have removed images to a link and in fact they were alright to leave.

Either way you need not be concerned as I have let them be so if there is a problem it's mine :worried: :hide:

Photo Copy Rights last a persons lifetime and approximately a further 70 years after they die though this can vary depending on the country. Going to have to wait a very loooong time before I can release some that I have and even then, that will be from the dark side!! :worried:

Crown Copyright is a bit more complex but as those photos were presumably published at some point (i.e. disseminated rather than being in a magazine) the copyright lasts 50 years, so according to the date of the incident they're now out of copyright. Crown copyright is defined as subsisting when a "work is made by Her Majesty or by an officer or servant of the Crown in the course of his duties" as those shots were undoubtedly taken by the ship's phot they are under Crown Copyright, however even if they'd been taken by an off duty chef, they would still fall under Crown Copyright as they're at their place of duty, the ship. The only way they wouldn't be was if a civilian who happened to be onboard had taken them.
Effectively all the photos I've taken from a ship, on a ship, in an aircraft, at a shore base etc. are under Crown Copyright as I could only be where I was to take them by virtue of being a Crown Servant. So that's half my photo album and half my Dad's including a load more Sea Vixen shots I must get round to posting!
Interestingly if the work isn't published the Crown Copyright lasts 125 years.

Thanks for that info Skippy, did not consider that it would have come under Crown Copyright I was more or less looking at it as a normal copyright thingy that applies to us mere mortals with cameras.

Nigel, it came as a bit of a surprise to me when I found out lots of photos I thought were mine were in fact Her Majesty's!

I've seen those photos before in a book, but frankly it matters not if you post them here or not, because you have taken a photo of them and posted that. And that photo is yours :)

Besides HMG has more important things to do at the moment.
