DVD Not Finalised

Post by Nigel H-J »

Used to have Roxio DVD Burner software but now have Nero (all came with DVD Drive in otherwords just bog standard software) if you know what I mean!!

When I had Roxio I was copying files to a Verbatim DVD-RW Disc but then had a power cut!! The disc had not been finalised and now cannot access it even though there are files on it (my son put it in his laptop and accessed them) my question is why can he access them and not me on my computer? Also tried the one at work and it won't read the disc either.

Is there any way I can get to the files as all it is showing on properties is that the disc is full and says D: not accessable.

Any ideas welcome as my son will not be over for some time.

Many thanks in advance
Nigel.

I think you can read and extract the data using an iso tool like Isobuster or Poweriso.

I'm on my mobile here but I'm sure you can get a limited demo of one or both so you can see if they can read the data.

One point that I cannot understand was why the DVD worked on my sons' laptop when it won't on the computer? :dunno:

Just a thought Nigel...Check that Drive D: works with other discs, as it could be that Drive D: is not seen by your new setup. Also NERO does some funny things, perhaps you could start Nero and see if you can access drive D: through it...Maybe even read the disc or OPEN it through NERO.

I have been wary - with just cause, of having both Roxio & Nero on the computer at the same time. More than one I have been unable to access certain discs on this machine, but on my other machine (just Roxio) have been able to access them with no problem.

That's been my problem. Would not be brave enough to say both are causing a confict in your case, but its a possability.

Is it a Windows 7 laptop? Possibly a Dell? I have a Dell win7 laptop and it has a built in Roxio burner, a picture of a Disc appears bottom right of the desktop screen when I put a disc in it.

If so you can finalise the DVD on the laptop.

Many thanks for all your replies, Darren, I think you have possibly hit the nail on the head as do believe that my sons' laptop is Windows 7, looks like I will have to wait until he comes over with it so that a copy of the disc can be made. Many thanks.

Hi Bob, don't have both of them running as got rid of the Roxio in favour of Nero but nowe wondering whether that was a good idea after all. Sods law I no longer have it!!

Peter, will give your suggestion a go tomorrow, many thanks.

Kind regards
Nigel.
