Setting the POV shown when pressing a numberpad key

Post by DavidK »

Currently, I'm using Rick Piper's HS 748 and David Maltby's BAC 1-11s in FSX.

When, inside the HS 748 virtual cockpit, I press the numberpad "5" key, the point-of-view is (re)set to look forwards out of the windscreen. However, when I try the same inside the 1-11 virtual cockpit, the point-of-view shifts to looking downward at the seat, i.e. to a sort of "botty-cam" view. Does anyone know what / how / which parameter/s I need to change to achieve the HS 748 behaviour in the 1-11s?

I tried researching this, including replacing the "eyepoint" parameter settings in one of the BAC 1-11 aircraft.cfg files with those from the HS 748, but had no joy and became more confused. So, I'd be grateful to hear from someone who knows what to do!

Apologies if I've missed the answer elsewhere in the forum,
David K

Hi David..

I don't have the 1-11 in FSX but have you tried using the '8' key on the numberpad. Keypad number 5 is a 'down' view in FS9 too :)

Usually 8 is pan up, as 2 is pan down. I know what he means though when using the hat switch on the joystick to look around it's tricky to get back to a straight ahead view I often press 5, which resets the forward view to straight ahead, but looking down at the seat. A few presses of 8 then to look up and ahead again.

Some have changed the keys, it would be nice to have a key set to the default level straight ahead view.

Ah.. ok Darren. As you can probably tell, I'm not a VC person as I too suffer these problems. No such hassle with a good old 2D but of course, FSX isn't 2D friendly 8) There is definitely a case for TrackIR in FSX even though I don't particularly like 'em.. or FSX for that matter :lol:

Yes, that's what I find myself doing. Every now and then, though, when a flurry of switching etc is required, the instant press-numberpad-"5"-to-reset-view would be nice. It's in place in the HS 748, which is an FS9 model running in FSX, so, as they're also FS9 models running in FSX, I'm assuming it's possible in the 1-11s.

I've had a look at this for you in FSX. How do you cope with it! :rant: :lol:

Anyway it appears that the 748 has an extra view set up in panel.cfg
'botty-cam' (like it) isn't programmed into the 1-11, it's the default action in FS for '5'.

So, if you want it to work the same as the 748, find panel.cfg and try adding this at the end of the [VIEWS] section:-

VIEW_DOWN_WINDOWS=50
VIEW_DOWN_ZOOM=0.8
VIEW_DOWN_DIR=11.0, 0.0, 0.0

You may need to adjust the 11.0 if it's not pointing exactly where you want it.
BTW panel.cfg is the one in the folder \Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\DMFS Shared Files\BAC 1-11 Panel VC

In FS9 the default view in the VC is obtained by pressing the Spacebar...God knows what it is in FSX! The Aces broke all that stuff and wrote it all again :lol:

{reads manual for default key assignments}

Holding down the spacebar turns on mouse look.

I tweaked the panel.cfg file as above and have just started a 1-11 500 flight... and the numberpad "5" now centres the view straight forward as desired. (Also, it doesn't look like I'll need to adjust it.) So, thank you very much!
