RAF Parham/Framlingham

Post by DarrenL »

Does anyone know if this has been made as scenery for FS (can be FS9 or FSX).

I am doing a few few screenshots for a friend who's father used to fly Dart Heralds for BAF, Janus and South East Air and along with a promised low level over Headcorn I'd like to get some nice shots over his now local Parham airfield (RAF/USAF Framlingham), where he still flies RC models only as it's got a road going through the middle of it these days, wheat and cows. I can fly over it with Horizon VFR scenery but it would be nice to do some low level with ground shots as well.

Anyone know of it anywhere?

Thanks :)

PS. I've probably put this in the wrong place but I saw the description for this section as "get answers to questions and request and share references. " :)

Hello Mate..

Had they been done to match the Horizon software, I'd have expected to see it here.. http://www.playhorizon.co.uk/forums/vie ... php?t=2761

No sign of it there unfortunately and it doesn't ring any bells. Doesn't mean to say it's not been done but if it has, I don't know if it ;)

I hope it doesn't matter with a match in Horizon, this is a screenshot of an FS2004 Silverstone overlaid over FSX Horizon VFR scenery. How close is that! (Just found where I got it from and it's designed for "Visual Flight" UK VFR Scenery).

I'll keep looking though, if it hasn't been done I might {gulp} try doing it myself...........famous...........last................words.

Hi Darren..

Visual Flights UKVFR Photoscenery was done by Getmapping and was made for FS2002 but dragged into FS2004 (later sales carried FS2004 compatible stickers) :) Horizon is what was born out of the flames and ashes of the UKVFR Photo team and Gary Summons used ground textures from UKVFRPhoto for his FS2004 UK2000 scenery. I can't remember now if UK2000 scenery still has the option tick boxes UKVFR Photo user but it used to have :) The main differences were that for UKVFR users, the airports were slightly realigned to match the VFR scenery hence.. the close match you see there even though it's in FSX with GenX. His GenX compatible scenery is called VFR Airflieds and comes in volumes to match the GenX scenery volumes.
Regardless.. that's a very good match considering it's from FS2004. I wouldn't have bothered getting the new stuff had I known

I see you're here so I won't edit my original post. Have a look at Allnodes for the file fdg17txs.zip

It's basically FS2004 texures for the B17 but comes with scenery for RAF Framlingham among others. There may be AI traffic too but beware not to use the traffic file in FSX without first decompiling it and recompiling it into FSX format. It might be tosh but it just might be what you're after ;)

No airfield on the re-skin but looking around there I have found the full pack which has the airfields, now just to extract it all and take Parham out and try it :)

Thanks again.

Here we go, it's slightly off, so unless I work out how to move it I might end up working how to do do it myself, just adding the tower which is still there and laying the main runways. Probably a bit of reading to do, but it's not the first time I have done some game modding when I can't find what I need :)

Hmm.. as you say, not far off but far enough. Needs a slight orientation change too doesn't it. Ah well.. if you're prepared to fiddle, it shouldn't be beyond the bounds of possibility to get that pretty much bang on ;) Pity Gary Summons didn't make it! ;)

Keep us posted on your progress (or not as the case may be) :)
