CBSF soooo slow
I know I have no right to complain, I don't contribute a cent to this website, so please berate me if you will, but why oh why is the site just so slow at loading? I love coming here but I have to say I only do so occasionally being put off by the waiting. It ranks with Simviation in slowness.
Is it because I live atop a hill that the data tired from its trek across the Atlantic and worn out from trudging across the tundra mile after mile and finally it has to struggle up it? It takes me back to the bad old days of modems.
In all seriousness, I do enjoy the info and banter here otherwise. Nice bunch of people.

Re: CBSF soooo slow
Have you checked the oil level in your modem lately??
I have had trouble in the past, but nothing at all like this recently
That is with CBFS as such....sometimes the whole net slows right up.....it did last night (GMT)
Perhaps it's just the links to where you are and there is some sort of bottle neck??
It will be interesting to see if there are ather members getting trouble and where they are
BTW I don't get trouble with Simviation being slow either

Re: CBSF soooo slow
I stay away from simviation so do'nt know about that, usualy when CBFS is slow so are a lot of others, I am in the Philippines with not the most reliable speeds, seems to vary with time of day.

No problems here either... but as Rich says, it varies a bit with the time of day as both Denmark and UK, have evenings at the same time, it is normally during this the response time lacks a bit.
(Presuming that the server that hosts CBFS is placed in UK)
Mostly slow responses are due to local circumstances rather than a slow server .....
Again, if CBFS is the only application that is running on the server, it shouldn't be a server issue, but if the server hosts a lot of other applications this might also slow the server processing down .... but rarely this is the case....
I'm pretty certain that local factors are the culprits for the speed observed at client side.

Re: CBSF soooo slow
I can't really say I have problems with slow loading... and I sometimes frequent these forums on an Ipad using my mobile phones cellular connection!
Error 482: Somebody shot the server with a 12 gauge.
Re: CBSF soooo slow
I come on here using my Galaxy S from the pub and no problems

Re: CBSF soooo slow
Server is performing well within its capabilities and hasn't been maxed out since we moved to this platform in April. We do use a bandwidth limiter which in effect limits each connections transfer rate to 200kbps, but this is not uncommon and well above that used by most other sites. Currently are stats show everything from IE9 to opera being used as web browsers, so unless you have some sort of obscure web browser installed it can't be that either. A could test would be to try from a neighbour or friends PC and see if you get the same issue?
Ben.

Re: CBSF soooo slow
Down here in Oz (GMT+10), I have found that certain times of day give faster downloading. You get an odd day now and then when a particular site might be slow, but it will generally recover within a few hours. With the timezone difference, I get quite a large 'window' when both the US and UK/Europe are either tucked up in bed or at work. Of course that means there is a corresponding period for the northern hemisphere folk when they are all home from work, not yet abed, and surfing the net.
Apart from actual server crashes or maintenance, the 'slowness' seems to be just the result of Internet traffic congestion. It can be made worse for specific sites when a long-awaited aircraft is released for downloading. Nothing to worry about really - it is still magically fast communication, as anyone else who remembers what a telegram was will confirm.

Re: CBSF soooo slow
This is this the thing here Mike
The times VAncouver is surfing will largely be out of our time so a direct comparison is difficult.
As Bens says, trying another nmachine close by might give a clue but other than that all we can say is it appears OK our end and take it from there.
I know that late evening can be a big slowdown here as the US comes home for tea and hits the net.
I'm just sorry we can't give a answer to exactly what is happening but since Simviation is mentioned too it would appear to be at the users end.
I did have a massive slow down earlier this evening and that was laptop and PC
All sites were affected with Cal Classics and Britmodeller the worse but all dire,
Lasted maybe half and hour or maybe a bit longer.

Cheers, Garry -
Another problem is the huge percentage of useless email traffic. Not just the pink stuff, but all the cute pets/brave one-legged dogs/"patriotic" statements which are really just racism things which all end with "send this to all your friends" . It's all out there, going round and round in circles, just wasting bandwidth capacity
