AS per ALL of Dave's creations they are based on real living aircraft - they are model as they exist today -- Dave was very fortunate to have MartinP AND the owner provide invaluable photographs ad information
as well as insight into how the critters behave......Hence the modern accutrments in the panel.

Im sure he could be persuaded to build a 50s panel for the beast, if you all yell loud enough!!!

Just got back from a break in Devon - and an opportunity to visit Eggesford airstrip where most of these Austers are hangared - Alladin's cave for any Auster nut and a great bunch of friendly folks
Leif has outlined my working method - by modelling the aircraft as they are now, I neatly side-step any issues like ' that Auster -x didn't have a compass there etc etc - well - it does now .
We also try and make them fly as they are flown today under their L.A.A. permits even though they may have been capable of a more sparkling performance when new (Austers? sparkling ? you're havin a laugh ). To achieve this, the figures come straight from their current pilots.

Of course, now you've brought Beagle into the mix, you've opened the way for a few more models - Bassett anyone?

BTW, is there any reason why you equip your Austers with the FS GPS500 unit? I would have thought that the portable GPS295 might have been more appropriate in "vintage" aircraft as a bolt-on retro-fit device rather than a panel-fit one. This is NOT a criticism - I'm just curious!

Well, it's not really a Beagle, having started off life as an Auster A.O.P.6. Having bought a load of them back, they stripped them completely down, rebuilt them and added extra bits, all of which contributed to turning it into a poor peformer (think of the agricultural pitch-trim effort in the roof, for example). I feel OK about it but don't expect to be continuing down the Beagle road -
Ah the GPS- idleness really. I used it on my early builds because it is a close visual match to the unit actually in use on one. Also, I've always prefered the 500 to the 295 because of its shape. Designers priviledge

This Terrier would perhaps have been near the top of my favourites although, like you, the A.O.P.9 gave me the most pleasure until another stole it's place 2 weeks ago.
I was visiting Eggedford, home of many Austers,meeting Martin and was to be given a flight in WZ662 - the real A.O.P.9 However, G-AMMS the Aiglet Trainer was out of the hangar instead and I was offered that one instead - no problem - another great favourite. Not only did I get a flight in her - I was handed the controls as well, and flew her for a while So now that's the all-time top of the list of course.
