Help with the "amazing" BAC one eleven

Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

Got her down to 68840 gross lbs, 18 flaps etc... and she took off still pretty hairy, got close to stalling just after rotation.
Can some one please explain the use of the "Top Temp" switch should they only be used during high alt take off's and when do you switch them off? I never used to use them.

If you open the throttle fully the engines produce full power but you need to throttle back as soon as possible or the engines will over heat, burn out and fail.

Turn the top temp on and when you open the throttle the power setting is limited to keeping the max power it can within the temperature range.

So top temp on slightly less power but you can throttle up and forget about cooking the engines.

Don't compare the 1-11's climb rate to modern jets.
In other words - don't pull too much.

he he this makes me want to try to get the puppy air born from Lapaz.... ~15000 feet above sea level if I remember right.

oh and for another challenge. see if you can get it off the ground from SEA LEVEL if the air temp is north of 32C

I used to run into this problem in KSDF on our summer 95+ degree days.... would Take all the 11,000 foot main runway.... >.<

Try 8 degrees and give it a chance to lift off...if you get short of runway then increase to 10 degrees. Try not to exceed 10 degrees and then when safely airborne and gear retracting, ease it down to 8 degrees again to accellerate to climb speed.
