Is anyone using Ultimate Terrain for Europe? http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=uteurope
Just wondering what it is like as I have been given permission to buy my last bit of soft-ware before the week-end or is there another one that might be better?
Regards
Nigel.

Re: Ultimate Terrain Europe.
Hi Nigel,
I dont fly in FS9 much these days, but I do have this. I think its pretty good, but when I compair it to my FSX environment its nowhere near as good. If I compare it with the default FS9, it makes a great difference, but its a big download, about 900 MB if memory serves, 1.4GB uncompressed

Re: Ultimate Terrain Europe.
Hi Ben, Many thanks, I have incidentally looked at the FSX version and it certainly has the wow factor!!
Just a choice between Ground Environment or Ultimate Terrain, not sure but are they both roughly the same or is Ultimate Terrain slightly different?

Re: Ultimate Terrain Europe.
Ok mate, can't speak for the FS9 version on this, but on FSX Ultimate terrain NEEDS ground environment, and if I had to have one over the other I'd go for Ground Environment.
What I'd ask is where do you do most of your flying? If its 90% in the UK then I'd make sure I spent the cash making the UK as good as it can be rather than going for UT or GE and there are a lot of great addons for Blighty.
What addons do you currently have and which ones do you like best? that will give us an idea of what to recommend

Re: Ultimate Terrain Europe.
Hi,
I've got Ultimate Terrain USA/CAN and Europe, and Ground Environment for both FS9 and FSX. All of the products are a significant improvement over the default terrains. You really need the Ground Environment to see all of the benefits from the Ultimate terrain packages - but if I could only have 1, I'd go with Ground Environment, as it's textures cover the entire globe, whereas the UT products only cover their specific areas. Of course, if you only fly in certain locations you may decide otherwise... I also use the FSGenesis mesh - with all of these products combined, along with REX2, you can almost convince yourself you're watching a movie... The UT products can have a major impact on framerates, but are highly variable installations, that you can also go back into at any time to modify settings until you get the combination best suited for your PC. Ground Environment had no impact on framerates as far as I could tell. I'm a spoilt brat when it comes to add-ons - so on top of the above mentioned packages I've also got the UK2000 airfields. All of them loaded up make both 9 and X a very enjoyable experience! Hope this helps,
Mark

Re: Ultimate Terrain Europe.
Right then, I can just about squeeze in Ground Environment as well so best to use both together? If so I will go for it, Mark, regarding your comment on Mesh I will have to go free-ware on that, any ideas where you can get a good one from?
Ben, Mark, many thanks for your help.
Kind regards

Re: Ultimate Terrain Europe.
Hello,
Sorry, can't say I know much about any of the freeware mesh packages. I know flightsim.com seems to have a lot of them in the file library. Why not try a search on their engine, then punch the names you find into google or your search engine of choice and see if there's any commentary floating about which points you in the right direction.
Sorry - hope you enjoy the Flight1 products,
Mark

Re: Ultimate Terrain Europe.
Nigel,
for mesh, you night try the freeware set by Rhumbaflappy, Richard Ludowise, from here -
http://cid-f3950c5bbd2bcfa1.skydrive.li ... =173203563
It was originally created for CFS2 but works great in FS9 - sorry, but I'm not sure whether you're looking for FS9 or FSX coverage here. Anyway, hope that helps,
Ro
