New, rig - all the possibilities ...

Post by DanKH »

Hi

My new rig comes with a HDMI out and the screen with a HDMI in, on top of the "ususal" DVI connections ....

Now should I use the HDMI or the DVI connections? and why?

Hi Dan HDMI I think is mainly for HD TV stuff I would go for DVI which most monitors support however if they dont and are of the VGA type you most likely will have an adapter with the video card.
What are you getting then :)

Thanks Tony, yes the HDMI outlet from the PC is from the TV receiver.... I'll use the DVI from the graphic card to the screen.

On the video side of things HDMI and DVI carry exactly the same data, the only difference is that HDMI can carry audio as well. There shouldn't be any difference in video quality between the two and you can get leads with DVI on one end and HDMI on the other, I use one between my media PC and my TV.

The only benefit is the HDMI connector and cable isn't as chunky :)
