Re: Memory Error...?
Sorry mate, you've missunderstood me, you should never run FS on your c drive. FS should be on a separate drive. Your c drive should be used for your OS etc
Ben.

Re: Memory Error...?
OK dokey.....but i got so much stuff FS related..(saved files and paint projects) that the D drive is very bloated.....My saved files for FS...like my payware .EXE's should i put them all on the C drive and just use the D for the FSX..?
That what you mean Ben...?

Re: Memory Error...?
Oo-er.. getting technical
I thought it was good policy NOT to have your OS and flightsim on the same drive. That said, it also seems to be good policy to have certain files NOT on your FS drive and if you only have 2 drives.. where else can they go but C drive. I think what Ben is saying is that you shouldn't install FS on the same drive as your OS which in most cases will be C drive. A pile of cr@p goes onto C drive which the OS uses and has nowt to do with FS so it would make sense not to make the twain meet if at all possible.
I have FS9 installed on E drive (which happens to be a partition on the primary drive) and even this isn't ideal. However, FSX is installed on it's own dedicated, physical drive (there's space for FS9 on there too) so when it's running.. the OS can do whatever the heck it wants on C and leave FSX to do likewise on F. Works for me (even with the 5sec pauses that I don't get on a similarly configured pc)

Re: Memory Error...?
Exactly mate. If you think about it your c drive is constantly in use by the OS so putting FS on there too kills it, mean time your d drive is doing bugger all. All your install files do bugger all except when your run them, so they can go on your cdrive with no impact. FS is disk intensive so if its on its own disk, bingo :-)
Ben.

Re: Memory Error...?

Yes.. the mixture of what used to be 'done practise' in FS9 and what happens with FSX has parted somewhat. Stuff like control drivers should still go on C drive. As for GenX.. well, I think mine is on C drive (I let it go where it wanted to go) and as already mentioned, FSX is on F. You used to get (apparently) faster load times in FS9 with VFRPhoto on a separate drive and as the GenX install routine seemed to know where everything was, I let it do it's own thing. If this is wrong, I'm willing to admit I cocked up too

If you have two drives...
All of your FSX, GenX, addon scenery etc on you second drive.
IF you have space on your second drive you can put FS9 on here too in a separate directory. This is because you don't run both of these at once. So they would never be competing for a share of disk access time or disk bandwidth.
I'm going to simplify it a bit. Lets say you had a bucket of 2 litres of water and 1 pipe it would take longer to get the water out than it would if you had two 1litres buckets and two pipes.
So basicly your c drive is bucket one and in constant use, so you put your FS stuff on your d drive so that when you run FS, its got its own dedicated pipe.
IF you had 3 drives, yes, you could put your GenX and other scenery on the 3rd drive. Same principle applies, c drive in constant use, so don't use that, d drive with FS and E drive with genX. In this arrangement FS has a dedicated pipe and so does GenX. In reality its a bit more complicated than that, but thats the principle.
The trick is that only non FS things go on your C drive, i.e. OS, Browsers, Office etc.
FS is very disk intensive, so if you put any of this on the C drive its competeing with the OS to get a slice of time to access the disk. Hope that all makes sense
