Brush off at Southampton

Post by rosscogswell »

I was on the FlyBe Glasgow to Southampton flight last night which was doing very well with a strong tailwind. Sadly, for SWMBO in the shart stay carpark, we ended up being vectored all around the Solent. The reason? Two foxes playing on the runway!
I recall back at Hawarden we used to regularly see hares on the runway who seemed to enjoy sunning themselves rather than sit in the damp grass.

Could be worse - we've had to retrieve OAPs from runway at Denham that had escaped from the retirement home next to the airfield :welldone:

I've just had visions of folks lured away from the runway with tea and Battenburg cake....

Many Years ago our airport was closed for a while because some wallabys escaped from the zoo and were out on the runway making a series of short hops

I never forget the sight of the firemen trying to catch them

Ross,

Its probably because of the Itchen Valley Country Park next to the airfield. I used to go for walks in there and the old ramp across the long disused Itchen navigation to a farm house that used to stand in the trees at the edge of the airfield was still there, so I think it was possible to get into the airfield from the country park... certainly if you are "fox sized"

They're trying to break out and you want to get in Eric ? I believe vacancies do come up though - and if you meet an ocatagenarian dressed as a French farmer with soil on his clothes then you know where he's come from !
