Well, when I upgraded it kept all my settings and FS9 performs exactly the same as under Vista. But as you don't have Vista that's not much help, is it?

W7 definitely feels quicker and input is translated to action with much less, if any, delay. Boot up is quicker but shut down is very quick indeed. The interface is just right. If Vista was 'funky' - with a bold, cartoony feel - then W7 is more 'designer chic'. Think smoked glass coffee tables and Bang and Olufsen.

So far, I've found that everything I want to do has been thought through and I just have to find the right icon to click to make it happen. It's early days but it's looking very good. I like it very much.

Cyberbrat did have a PCI memory driver incompatibility which led to a blue screen and we had to re-install W7. But he found some newer drivers and it's OK now. But out of three laptops upgraded that was the only issue I encountered.

Yup.. the old numbers game. The more pc's you have.. the more likely one of em is gonna hit a snag

My offspring has Vista on her laptop and I've never liked it. Having read what I've read in the meantime.. I was always hopeful M$ would be able to 'nail it' so I hung back on any Vista upgrades.. and mighty glad I did

One interesting aspect of Windows 7 is its streaming capability. In the folder structure are a series of libraries and basically anything in these (or associated with them) is streamed to a compatible device (PS3 in my case). The libraries are for pictures, music and video. It actually works! It means not having to do the tedious transfer business to create a photo library (for example) to view on the tele.

I have the RC version of windows 7 on here as a dual boot

the only thing stopping me upgrading is the lack or windows mail which i have used for years.

what do you use for e mail ?
Needs to be able to import windows mail messages and contacts

Hi Rick,

Windows Live Mail is the direct replacement for Windows Mail... available from all good MS websites FOC. There are options to import from Windows Mail but I haven't used it yet. To view the menu bar for File Edit View etc options you have to select a little icon next to the help icon at the top right hand edge of the screen.

Windows Live Mail is an improvement on the old version in that calendar is back and you can have access to live feeds and newsgroups (can't remember if these last two are availablein Windows Mail).

Windows 7 is impressive isn't it, even if it makes no difference that I can see re running FSX under Vista.
