Unable to Access DVD

Post by Nigel H-J »

Went to add more files to my DVD (where I keep downloads for FS9) however as it was copying I needed to cancel the operation so hit the cancel button :worried: Now I cannot even access files on the DVD, insert the disc and nothing shows although if I try to add a file then those files will show but still unable to access them, need to copy them over to a folder so I can start again. Some of these files are with keycodes for software purchased, as you can imagine this is all going to be really annoying if I cannot somehow recover these files that are still on the disc.

Any ideas?

Regards
Nigel

Oooeeer Nige... first question is..... do you not have copies of the files elsewhere (IE on the HDD) or where you physically moving rather than copying them?

Are you still able to write to the DVD?

Have you tried inserting a blank DVD - does windows or whatever burning software you use have files waiting to be wirtten?

:-O :-O

Looks like it's started a new session having written over the old table of contents. You may be able to recover the data if you have the old session file (the one you're always asked if you want to keep.. which you should if you're using the dvd for multi-session) but if that doesn't work.. I think you may have a new coaster :worried:

Hi Jim and Dave many thanks for your reply, thankfully have been able to do a disc copy and transfer all the files onto another DVD and now able to read them.

Bit strange, would have thought that if I can copy those files onto a DVD I would also be able to view them on the original disc though when I tried nothing came up!!

Now going to copy them all again onto a 2nd one for safe keeping!!

Many thanks again.

Regards
Nigel.

Let's hope he doesn't. We'll all be whipped to within an inch of our lives

Nige.. what I do with registrations is keep a list (which I might add is currently out of date!) AND print it off every now and again. There's something comforting about ink/toner on paper ;)

I back up on memory stick atm but when I use my PC I back up every night on multi session DVD

I have had this problem several times and sometimes only the last backed up files showing or the original session and all the later stuff suddenly gone. :-O

So for a long time now I always back up on two disks.

Any really important stuff is backed up to two DVD, and an external drive :worried:
