From what I've gleaned M$ have been 'forced' to make Windows 7 a full product rather than an upgrade product for Europe. Reason being that it doesn't have an inbuilt browser and I think M$ were worried of the implications of upgrading a product already embedded with a browser by a product without a browser. Users need to do a clean instal having previously downloaded and saved a copy of their browser of choice on removeable media. I've got Vista on my laptop and as I only use it for browsing am happy with it. XP on my desktop will be replaced by W7.
Ref installing W7 is it best to instal 32 bit or 64 bit as I believe W7 includes both versions?

Couple of things John. The european version will now come with a browser selection screen during startup for the first time which will allow the installation of a browser of your choice. Re the x64 question, its horses for courses. I've been running x64 since Vista came out without too many issues. Most issues that you do get on a x64 platform will be with respect to the installer for an application, where this checks to see if its 32bit windows, and if not, bombs out. To be honnest, over the past 30 months I've only had a problem with something not supporting x64 twice, but if you have any software that your particularly fond of, check with the app vendor before going down the x64 route to make sure the app will run.

p.s. there is no point in using x64 unless you have more than 3GB of RAM anyway, so if not, don't worry.
